Cyber Monday 2012 – Deals for Men

November 26, 2012 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Also, we take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

After a Black Friday that could be best categorized as hit or miss (with some good hits and some serious yawns), Cyber Monday 2012 is shaping up to be a bit of the same.  (UPDATE:  This is actually taking a turn for the better.  More to come throughout the day.)  Yet for those of us who get no thrill, at all, about being slammed into that great clammy wall of humanity on Black Friday and the shopping season that follows, Cyber Monday still offers some refuge.  You point, you click, and the UPS, Fed Ex, or Mail Man delivers it to your door. Yayyyyyyy internet.  Expect this post to be updated throughout the day with more offers hopefully worthy of firin’ up the ol 56k modem.
.

jcp: Select Specials + Free Shipping No Minimum
All from the jcp brand, all the safest plays.

The Picks: Contrast Stitch Crew – $17 ($25), Slim Straight Jeans in Rinse – $22 ($30), OCBD – $20 ($25), Gingham Poplin – $20 ($25), Wool Blazer – $70 ($100, and you’ll want to size down), Quilted Barn Jacket – $25 ($40)

Probably the highlight of the day.  jcp’s CEO was adamant about not opening their doors on Thanksgiving (a nice gesture, as well as a brilliant marketing idea) and now they’re at the top of the heap for Cyber Monday deals.  Free shipping no minimum, and lots of price slashing on their terrific new jcp line.  Here’s some reviews on the jcp stuff in case you haven’t seen that yet.  Meanwhile, after a disappointing first spin with the jcp wool blazer in the normal size (medium), a size down was scored off the web.  The Small fits my frame extremely well off the rack.  So consider sizing down if you’re eyeing up the $70 all wool light grey blazer.  As for the other brands?  They can be a risk.  Seems like the fits can be a little wonky.

Amazon: $20 off $100 / $50 off $200 select boots & shoes w/ CYBRSHOE
If you like Allen Edmonds, your bank account may hate you.

This one’s all about filtering.  Once you get to the sale page, look to the left column and click on a men’s category.  Once the new page loads, scroll down a bit and once again on the left you can filter by brand.  The shoes you see should all be up for the code.  You can also filter by size, price, review, etc…  Apply the $20 off $100 or $50 off $200 code CYBRSHOE at checkout and you’re in business.  Note that there’s no “E” in “CYBR” for the code.  Weird.  Couple of noteworthy picks here:

  • Danner Mountain Light II in Brown – $176.68 or Black – $187.09.  Pretty incredible prices for a good looking, simple, recraftable, and highly functional gore-tex hiking boot.  Made in the USA and usually $310.
  • Allen Edmonds Neumora double monk – $278.82  AE’s foray into the DM trend drops under three bills.
  • Allen Edmonds Strands – $194.78 in plenty of size/color combos.  (full credit to CH for pointing these out in the comments)
  • Allen Edmonds Dalton – $305.07 Still pricey, but an incredible boot.  Review here.
  • Florsheim Asset Suede Single Monk – $99.95  A solid shoe.  More on how to wear it here.
  • Timberland City Escape Moc Boot – $92.17  Nice that it’s the brick red shade too.

Bonobos: 30% off site wide w/ TAKEOFF30
No must-spend thresholds for this code.

One of the best codes in recent Bonobos memory.  Great to see a company that hangs their hats on the web throw those same hats in the ring on Cyber Monday.  Also works on sale items.

J. Crew: 25% off site wide & free shipping no minimum w/ MONDAY
Nicely done with the free shipping no minimum.

A step up from the Black Friday weekend code thanks to the free shipping no minimum.   Some of the 3rd party merchandise and their Wallace & Barnes line is excluded.

J. Crew Factory: 50% off Site Wide & free shipping no min w/ YOURGIFT
Prices are as marked.  Code tacks on the free shipping.

Before you spit out your coffee, know that the prices have already been marked on their website.  So don’t head there thinking the code will get you an EXTRA 50% off those numbers.  The code more or less is a free shipping code, while their entire site has been marked down.  Thompson suiting line ends up at about the same price ($188) as it was with the black Friday codes ($191).

Lord & Taylor: 25% off, “limited” exclusions w/ CYBER
Actually, those exclusions are quite limiting.

Watches are excluded.  So are a host of brands.  Best if you’ve had your eye on something over there.

LL Bean & LL Bean Signature: 10% off w/ THANKS10
It’s (a little) something.

Actually started last week (more on those last week offers in a second) but never got a mention.  L.L. Bean doesn’t do codes all that often, so a 10% is a nice little something.  Ships free too.

Club Monaco: 30% off Cashmere w/ MONDAY
Comb the goat.

Cashmere is usually at the top of the list for exclusions when a retailer runs a sale.  Not this time.  To some, cashmere is highly overrated.  But not to others.  Especially the ladies.  If you’re looking for a splurge, for her, maybe the Luella striped cashmere scarf.  But it’s still a splurge.  $90.65 after the discount.

Jack Spade: Extra 25% off Sale w/ 25FTW
Carry this while wearing a Glen Plaid suit and you could hurt someone.

The Pick: Grey Plaid Computer File case – $133.50 ($375)

Jack Spade is most certainly a double dip brand.  Wait for a sale, and then wait for another sale, and then things start to get real reasonable.  The aesthetics are certainly second to none, but they don’t ooze bulletproof quality like say, Saddleback.  This grey plaid cotton work brief might have drool-worthy looks to some, but almost four hundred dollars is way steep.  It came down in price, slowly but surely, and now with the extra 25% off it’s a bargain compared to other plain, department store type of cases.  Final sale though, so you can’t return it.

Nordstrom:  30% off Bonobos
Bonobos for relatively cheap?

A Bonobos specific deal going on over at Nordstrom?  30% off all Bonobos that’s sold through Nordstrom.com.  There’s not a ton of inventory over there, but they do have travel jeans, straight leg washed chinos, and weekday warriors.

Levi’s: 40% off sitewide and free shipping no min w/ CYBERMON
Jeans, that you’d actually want to wear, in the mid $20s.

Many thanks to Jared in the comments.  514s in Tumbled Rigid for $26.40 shipped is worth a mention.  Sizes seem to be going quick on their stock though.

DSW: Tiered $15 off $74, $30 off $149, $50 off $199 w/ HOLIDAYS
Probably not going to be wearing these together.

The Picks:  Mercanti Fiorentini Cap Toe + Woolrich Socks in orange or charcoal = $119.89

By adding the socks you actually end up saving more in the end, thanks to barely tripping that $149 threshold.  The last time they ran a tiered sale the second level was $139, which was perfect for these new Made in Italy dress shoes.  This time, you gotta add some made in the USA socks.  As always, you’ll have to sign up for the DSW email list for this deal.

Banana Republic, GAP, Old Navy: 30% off w/ CYBER
You probably pulled the trigger on Friday?

Oof.  The 40% off at BR memory from Friday is still plenty Fresh, which makes this seem solidly… tepid.

Brooks Brothers:  Free Shipping no Minimum
Free shipping may lead to impulse buys.

The Picks: Double Bold Stripe Crew – $7.25, Key Fob – $14.50, Wool Pocket Square – $28.00

Brooks Brothers shipping can be an absolute deal breaker.  It usually runs pretty pricey.  But they were just running a 15% off sale, so the best “deal” would be to jump on something small and stocking-stuffer-ish here.  Socks and pocket square are made in Italy

Blue Claw Co.: 10% off entire site w/ CyberMonday, 25% off $500+ w/ Cyber25
Both the Urban and Classic collection get the 10% off.

Their Black Friday offer was 30% off, but just their new Urban Collection.  While not as generous, the 10% does now work on the Worton Weekender.  They’re also offering a free “classic dopp dark” (that the Bay Head Bathroom bag?) with orders of $350 and up.  Extremely well made here in the States.

And now… those offers that started last week that are continuing through today:

  • Yoox: Up to 40% off Fall/Winter + Extra 15% w/ YOOXTHANKS
  • Lands’ End / LEC: 30% off + Free Shipping w/ WONDERLAND & 2126
  • Club Monaco: Extra 30% off already reduced styles + free shipping,
  • Ralph Lauren: Extra 25% off already reduced styles + free shipping,
  • Rugby: 30% off regulr price, 50% off sale items + free shipping no minimum,
  • Indochino: 30% off orders of $700+ w/ BLACKFRIDAY12
  • The Motley: Tiered savings w/ THANKS15, THANKS20, and THANKS25

Thoughts?  Doesn’t it seem like the online Black Friday deals launched earlier this year and that most retailers were just fine with letting them roll through Cyber Monday?  Leave your take in the comments.

J.crew also is basically doing the same 25% off almost anything with free shipping for no minimum from last week for monday only, BTW. Could be a good one for some stuff they never put on sale.

Spent a solid 170 at jcrew for their selvedge 484s which never go on sale, and some socks. I have a pair of 514s selvedge that i am breaking in still but i wanted to try the skinnier pair to see how they fit. the 514s fit great up top but just a little baggy on the lower part of my legs.
otherwise the jcrew sale is okay, but i made off with much better deals a few weeks ago when they were doing their 30% of sale items, got some nice stuff for the gf!

Amazon shoe sale, AE included. Strands go for under $200. Save an additional $50 on orders over $200 with code CYBRSHOE.

In case anyone missed grabbing something from Express, they are having 40% off and stackable $20 off $50 with code 2449, substantial savings if you are buying small stuff getting you just over $50.

Also, anyone has suggestions for belts?

j crew factory is 50% off nearly everything including the thompson suit. Jacket plus pants for $158 is pretty nuts.

Finally, a free shipping sale at J.Crew. Wanted to buy a leather iPhone case, but refused to pay $9 shipping on it.

  13. MagM says

    November 26, 2012 at 6:22 AM

The charcoal is wool/poly (I love it anyway), the navy and medium gray (the ones identified in their name as wool suits) are just wool. Not high quality wool, but the fit is ace and the styling is a nice blend of modern and traditional. Like what we’ve all come to expect from J.Crew.

  14. Hector says

Just picked up some AE Strands, THANK YOU!

  15. Alan Skinner says

    November 26, 2012 at 6:54 AM

I’ve got $300 worth of Dillard’s credit. Any suggestions on how to use it? Its free money, but I still prefer to leverage sales if possible. If all else fails, I may just buy a charcoal grey suit. That’s a backup plan, though.

  16. Drew says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:16 AM

Assuming you’ve ordered it online during the last 30% promotion (where mine conveniently shipped today), is it really worth the $10/15 savings to go through the hassle of returns? I’m in the same quandary – considering postage for returns on the jacket/pants would be $7.50?

  17. Dan says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:18 AM

Dillards had 50% off all fragrance gift sets last year the day after christmas. If you’ve had your eye on a particularly expensive cologne or wouldn’t mind doubling up on one you already wear, that might be a good way to spend some of the credit.

  18. Miguel Angel O. says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:27 AM

Joe, on the Thompson J Crew pants, Do you know how much leg room they have? I normally have a hard time with my legs. I can wear 34×32 slacks no problem but on some of these suits the legs tend to be very tight. I play soccer and i have big thighs. Do i need to go up a size and do some alterations to be on the safe side?

  19. hbc14 says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:30 AM

Looks like the code is no longer working on Thompson Suit items. Bummer

  20. hbc14 says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:34 AM

Scratch that, It’s just that the Navy is a diff price than the charcoal

  21. jon jacob says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:40 AM

Just call and ask for a price adjustment. it’s not really a price adjustment that they’re supposed to do, but you can win them over by explaining it’s such a hassle to reorder and return.

  22. jthacker says

    November 26, 2012 at 7:41 AM

They’ll honor a price change if an item goes on sale after you purchase it…just call them up and they’ll credit your card for the difference.

  27. Joe says

    November 26, 2012 at 8:42 AM

Yessir. Updated above. $158 is for the 80/20 wool poly mix, darker charcoal color from last year. An amazing price for sure. $188 for the all wools from this year, which is about the same price as they were going for on Black Friday.

  28. ChrisReetz says

    November 26, 2012 at 8:42 AM

The jcp wool blazer is tempting. Looks a little boxy? Will it require tailoring to reach a slim fit?

  39. Aidan says

Does the Filson code still work? I doesn’t seem to be working with mens outerwear or bags.

If Amazon is sold out of a size, then the code won’t work since it’s a 3rd party retailer. That’s what I’m guessing the case is…

Annoying that Gap/BR/ON isn’t offering free shipping on any order, on the day when pretty much every other site is. I just need some underwear, won’t cross the $50 minimum.
