Raise your hand if you’ve ever done the Black Friday thing in person. ‘kay, a few hands went up. Now keep your hand raised if you think doing the Black Friday thing in person was WORTH it. Not so many hands now. With the explosion of e-commerce, you don’t necessarily have to wait until Cyber Monday if you hate the crowds. You can already get incredible, free from the crush-of-humanity deals via the magical internet. Here’s some of the best. Picks are scattered about when something was too good not to specifically mention.
.
J. Crew Factory: Up to 40% off site wide + Extra 15% off $100+ w/ GIVEANDGET

The Pick: J. Crew Factory Thompson Wool Suit – $191.25 (usually in the mid $200s)
And the 80% wool / 20% poly blend suit is a ridiculous $160.65 w/ the code. Meanwhile, reader Derek sent in a style tip about how some who have shopped at J. Crew Factory before might have one-time-use codes for 20% off orders of $125+ lurking somewhere. That drops the suiting even further. Code GIVEANDGET expires Sunday 11/25/12.
J. Crew: 25% off site wide* w/ COLOR25 Free shipping at $150 or more.

The Pick: Chippewa for J. Crew Plain Toe Boots – $186.00 ($248)
Yes, “*” means there are some exclusions. But it’s more than just the sale section that gets the discount this time. Now the exclusions include “certain third party branded merchandise”, but not all 3rd party merch is disallowed. For example, these boots from Chippewa are up for the discount. Goodyear welt, made in the USA, all that good stuff for well under $200 shipped. Code expires 11/25/12.
Banana Republic: 40% off w/ BRFRIDAY

Short of a Friends & Family 50% off 5 full priced items sale, this is as good as it gets. The early word on this code was that exclusions would be limited to: “Leather, Cashmere, Men´s Performance and SF Made.” That’s hardly anything. Suiting, Monogram, new arrivals… those can get the discount too? We’ll see if that sticks. Code expires today, 11/23/12. UPDATE: Looks like there’s not many exclusions on this one at all.
Yoox: Up to 40% off Fall/Winter + Extra 15% w/ YOOXTHANKS

The Picks: Ciro Lendini Single Monk – $127 ($167) or Double Monk Medallion – $151.30 ($178)
Yoox is a difficult site to browse. There’s just so much damn stuff there. But the in-house Italian shoe brand Ciro Lendini can deliver serious looks and good quality at a reasonable mid $100s price. Think of Ciro Lendini as Mercanti Fiorentini, only through Yoox instead of DSW. (And honestly, Ciro’s quality seems to be a notch up.) Now with the sale and the extra 15% off, those shoes drop even further, and items that aren’t already on sale also seem to get the discount. Shipping is free through Cyber Monday as well. Codes expires 11/26/12. Full review here for those shoes shown above.
jcpenney: Free Shipping no min.

At first glance, it doesn’t seem like that thrilling of a deal. But… imagine trying to hit a jcpenney on a day like today. Nope. No thanks. Not a chance. You can look at their in-store deals here, but nothing is all that thrilling for the guys. If they want to get their $22 jcp flat front cords (or other items from their jcp line) to my doorstep and pay for the transport… then that’s worth a mention here. Also, sizes on these new jcp items, especially the light grey wool blazer, can be strangely scarce in-store. Just got my hands on the small version of the jcp blazer over the web since the medium was big. While a little tight in the arms, it’s a keeper.
Lands’ End / LEC: 30% off + Free Shipping w/ WONDERLAND & 2126

The Picks: Vintage Black Wash Jeans – $18.18 ($70), Long Sleeve Coastal Rugby – $25.18 ($60),
Oak Street Bootmakers & Allen Edmonds are the obvious exclusions. Usually you can’t snag the free shipping if all the items in your cart are clearance and end in $.97. But that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. The Coastal Rugby with the khaki chambray collar has been on the radar for awhile. And while “black jeans” might produce visions of over-saturated Wranglers, these might lean more grey thanks to the wash. Not for everyone, but for under $20 shipped, they could be a steal for some.
Club Monaco: Extra 30% off already reduced styles + free shipping

The good news is that extra 30% off applies to items that have already seen a price cut. The bad news is the lack of size selection. You’ll still pay quite a bit, but their black watch Military Snorkel Jacket has now dipped to $188. Right, still up there, but retail on that one was $389. Code expires Monday 11/26/12, and might be worth a look in-store for better stock.
Ralph Lauren: Extra 25% off already reduced styles + free shipping

The Pick: American Deerskin Tuxedo Gloves – $79.69 ($125)
Not a lot in their sale section so it’s not the world’s greatest sale. These deerskin gloves are a splurge for sure, but they’re as sleek and clean looking as it gets. Lined in merino, snap closure at the interior wrist, and that standard three line stitch on the tops has been converted to recessed channel stitching. Free shipping no minimum is a real nice bonus. Sale expires Monday 11/26/12.
Rugby: 30% off regulr price, 50% off sale items + free shipping no minimum

The Picks: Tartan Newbury Jacket – $120 ($398) | Newbury Herringbone Jacket – $120 ($398)
Remember… these guys are going out of business in early 2013. Just like big brother Ralph, they’re doing free shipping no minimum. Sale expires on Monday 11/26/12. UPDATE: They just jacked up the discount on their sale items to 50% off. Not bad. Especially if you’re looking at an all wool blazer. Lots of sizes left when the post was updated.
Brooks Brothers: 15% off sitewide

Good but not mind blowing. It’s a blanket sale, so if there are exclusions they should be minimal. Looks like Sale items are up for the extra cut as well? Sale ends Saturday 11/24/12.
Bonobos
: 25% off $150 w/ TURKEYDAY25 & 30% off $250 w/ TURKEYDAY30

Seems like Bonobos has slowly but surely been ramping up their use of codes and sales. Yet they continue to set pretty high spend thresholds for codes like these to kick in.
Indochino: 30% off orders of $700+ w/ BLACKFRIDAY12

$700? Ouch. Let’s do the math: Two of their “essential” suits at $379 = $758. Lop off 30% and that brings the total down to $530.60. That’s a big bill this time (or anytime) of year. But that does work out to $265.30 per suit. Add the fact that you get two $75 alterations credits and the price gets extra nice. IF… you like Indochino, and IF… you need a couple of suits. They do have outerwear, blazers, and other stuff too…
EXPRESS: 50% off everything until Noon

Well that makes it easy. After noon today, Black Friday, it drops to 40% off. Prices are already all marked on their website. No codes or anything to monkey with on this one.
Tommy Hilfiger: 40.5% off w/ TURKEYTH

The Pick: Blackwatch Plaid Flask – $22.23 shipped.
Yep. Forty and a half percent off. It’s what’s equal to 30% off, plus then another 15% off after that 30% reduction has been taken. Shipping is a steep $7.95, but the grand total for the flask with shipping comes to $22.23. Not a bad price for a sharp looking pocket liquor keeper. Code won’t work on watches or fragrance. Code expires Sunday 11/25/12.
The Motley: Tiered savings w/ THANKS15, THANKS20, and THANKS25

For those who go past bar soap and a beard trim once a week. And even if you don’t, but know someone who does, they just launched a couple of gift guides. Codes expire Monday 11/26/12.
Kenneth Cole: 30% off full priced items w/ BFW12

The Pick: Coated Canvas Duffle w/ Vechetta Leather Trim$194.60 ($278)
Kenneth Cole is one of those stores where it’s good to double dip. Y’know, a code applied to an already on-sale item. Problem is, that can’t happen with this 30% off BFW12 code. BUT… that bag is pretty mean looking for under $200. That, and it’s actually a decent size. 19.5″ x 9.5″ x 14″ makes it almost 2600 cubic inches inside. Of course you could get a made in the USA Flight Bag from Frost River for less (full review here)… but talk about night and day in the looks department. Limited lifetime warranty on the KCNY bag. Code expires 11/25/12.
Blue Claw C0.: 20% off their Urban Collection w/ BlackFriday

The Pick: O’Hare iPad Sleeve: $60.00 ($75)
Made in the USA, plenty durable, and now their newer “urban collection” gets a 20% discount. Might be a good way to knock out that apple fan on your list if they don’t already have an iPad sleeve they’re in love with.
Amazon
: 25% off Select Boots w/code BOOTLOVE

The Pick: Allen Edmonds Cronmok – $206.21 ($275)
Amazon on Black Friday is a little like being in store at Macy’s on Black Friday. There’s so many “specials” on small ranges of select goods, it’s a little mind-numbing. Be ready to filter. These are from the select boot sale they have going on. That’s right, a select boot sale. ‘kay.
Macy’s: Select Black Friday Specials online + in store

Macy’s can be a bit of a hub for all that Black Friday craziness most of us try to avoid. They hang their Black Friday hat on individual product specials, which honestly… they can muck up the browsing. Could be worth a look if you’ve had your eye on something that Macy’s carries for awhile.
Expect updates throughout the day. What else? Hit the comments section if you’ve got leads on other Dappered-related Black Friday deals. Are you heading out to shop with the masses today? Sticking it to the big dogs and embracing Small Business Saturday (more on that tomorrow)? Leave it all below.
Yawn….I’ll take my chances with Cyber Monday
Is it just me, or are most of these sales “Meh?”?
Most of the Club Monaco inventory is sold out. Damn!!!
Finally ordered the JCF suit in navy but shipping in march… :[
Definitely seems like a wait for Cyber Monday is in order, and if that follows suit, then holidays/afterward.
Gap has a nice sale, up to 60 percent off on items plus an additional 20% with a code from their website.
Gap’s sale is decent. Picked up a new pair of dark blue denim for 40 and sweaters for 25-30. Also finally pulled the trigger on the JCP staffords for 42 shipped.
I was hoping to hit the outlets (always found stuff for $5-$30) but those crowds and traffic are THE worst.
Got a pair of Levi’s 501’s for just under $30 bucks shipped over at the Levi’s sale.
Many sites are down today. Cant imagine what Monday is going to look like
After working in e-commerce for awhile, Cyber Monday discounts usually don’t change much from Black Friday. At least one of our stores, Scarves.net, usually keeps the same 30% off deal for Monday with a couple doorbusters like everyone else.
http://www.scarves.net/mens-scarves/
How do you get the thompson suit down to 160? I could only reach 191. With the 20%, it would be $151?
It’s the 80/20 wool poly blend that you can get down to 160: http://factory.jcrew.com/mens-clothing/suiting/PRDOVR~39603/39603.jsp
With the economy the way it is, and with much credit for Joe for having this website, Black Friday is every friday now, Thanks Joe!
http://mckaylaisnotimpressed.tumblr.com/
With a 20% off code, I could knock those Chippewa boots down to $150. Mucho tempting.
When I hit the link for those single monks I’m taken to the women’s section where they’re labeled as “moccasins” and carry the following description:
Composition:
Soft leather
Details:
solid color, side buckle closure, narrow toeline, rhinestone detailing, leather/rubber sole, flat heel
Something’s not right.
Hit up your local GAP, gents. My local store had the Herringbone blazer the other day, and despite a sign saying it was 30% off the full price, it rang up at $39. A total score, especially considering online and on sale it is going for $68.
Express just extended the 50% off everything sale online to midnight.
I like the Indochino write up :p
ilikethisalot
People say that every year. Yet in 11.5 months, everyone will be drooling over all the “deals” that are about to hit on the upcoming Black Friday.
Consumers are stupid, retailers are not. They have no incentive to provide actual deals when everyone is in a frenzy because of the name and media attention.
Yeah that’s… odd. Here: http://www.yoox.com/us/44432568IP/item?dept=men#sts=sr_men80&cod10=44432568IP&sizeId= That’s on the men’s side, but the description is still off. I’ll let you know if my new brown pair has rhinestones though 🙂
40% off at BR with almost no exclusions is about as good as it gets. That J. Crew Factory suit hasn’t dipped under $200 yet (if memory serves). Is black Friday over-hyped? Sure. Does that mean all consumers are stupid? Nope.
Has anyone seen any cotton suits that are on great deals?
Cosign the levis sale
He heee! That’s freakin’ funny.
Anyone know about the fit on the Rugby Newbury jackets? And quality, compared to, say, the J Crew herringbone jacket? (Retail is 2x as much, but how inflated are Rugby’s prices?)
The “They Live” one is outstanding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp_K8prLfso
Chubbies is offering a $49.50 giftcard for $39.50.
Promo code STUD13821 stacks on top of the Rugby sale for an additional 15% off.
How would you do that / would you share the code please?
That was the one deal of BF that seemed worthwhile for me, under $30 shipped for a pair of 514’s to go along with a new pair of 511’s I got for cheap at a consignment shop.
How is the sizing on the Ciro Lendinis? They don’t have half sizes so I’m wondering if they large or whatnot and does anyone know how dark the dbl monks are? I really want to try out dbl monks but I think they look best with a dark distressed brown
Joe, do you know how the BR peacoat compares to the offering by JCrew and LE?

KD
Black Friday & Cyber Monday = time to self gift me some new tweed for the winter season!
Blue or Gray for the Thompson suit?
Finally pulled the trigger on the J Crew Factory Herringbone sportcoat for $106 shipped. I’m pretty borderline on this, but there’s a Factory about an 30m away if I need to return it.
Wish they made this or the J Crew Ludlow in a 46 Long.
Pretty sure it’s noticeably shorter as well as noticeably thinner in the fabric (if I’m remembering correctly.) I’m a big fan of most BR outerwear, but compared to the J. Crew, Lands’ End, or a real one from an army/navy surplus, it just doesn’t compare.
I usually wear a 10.5D and own a size 11 in the black single monks. They’re on the big side for sure. I ordered a 10 this time for the brown (yes, I do like them that much, but that’s just me.)
Just left Dillards where they had quite a few of their solid, custom fit polos for $29.99.
Oh, and V-neck polo sweaters were $34.99
Ralph Lauren Polo that is. I keep leaving these things out. That’s the cheapest I’ve ever seen them.
That picture from Amazon = holy shat that is awful looking.
Picked up a pair of Clarks boots for $63 at JCP.
Can the waist size on the Thompson pants be altered? The smallest they have is a size 30 and I’m a 28…
Except for that awful looking sole. Maybe better to save and spring for the Wonverines.
Joe –
Any thoughts on the J Crew Factory Holborn Trench?
Thanks
For those intetested, i picked up the lands end canvas peacoat that was reviewed here in store for $97! 50% off outerwear in stores made this an absolute steal and it fits great.
Just got the AE daltons on amazon for 230 if anyone is interested, as well as the beeswax clarks originals for 60. I used the coupon code i had lying around from having signed up to their mailing list a short while ago(dunno if they are still offering that promotion). also a couple of questions joe. The small grey wool flannel jacket from jcp, what is the size comparison on that to lets say a ludlow fit jacket…in the ludlow fit i am either a 36s or 38s, would the small be comparable? also, and i apologize for the twenty questions what are the shades of the thompson suits, i already have an essential light grey indochino, would buying the charcoal thompson be worth it? obviously charcoal and light grey are different however it looks like a light grey in the pics. And what about the blue? i have the worsted italian blue ludlow (that i got for 270 on ebay btw), which looks kinda like a sharkskin blue, is that what the thompson blue looks like? because it does label it as worsted blue as well so just wanted to make sure. also i know you said the pants are not as trim (are they at least tapered somewhat though?) as the ludlows but are the jackets comparable to the ludlow fit? thanks and i apologize if these questions had already been answered.

I really like it. It’s very light weight, sort of a grey flannel lining and “washed” soft. A very clean an simple jacket.
I was able to go in-store and get the J.Crew tuxedo at 25% off + an additional 15% off for the student discount for a total of 40% off of $790. Technically those two discounts shouldn’t stack but I got the sales rep to say that they would then the manager came and said she’d let it slide this time. Note to the world: it’s always good to at least try and ask the sales rep about such things 🙂
Melvin, a tailor can take care of that no problem.
Apologies for the late response ari. Here we go:
1. The small from jcp is going to be too big on you. I sized down from a medium and it fits my 38R – 40R frame pretty dang well, so that means it should be too big on you. Especially too long in the arms.
2. The all-wool Thompson in grey is going to be pretty close to the Indochino essential grey. So skip that one. Not sure why they’re calling it “charcoal” when it’s really more of a medium grey. Meanwhile, the 80/20 wool poly blend http://factory.jcrew.com/mens-clothing/suiting/PRDOVR~39603/39603.jsp is a true charcoal with a bit of barely noticeable marling to it. Full review here: http://dappered.com/2011/08/in-person-the-j-crew-factory-suit/
3. Per the blue. Yep, skip it. You’re good with what you have. Nice steal from ebay by the way.
4. Pants aren’t boot cut, but they’re not all that tapered.
5. Jackets. Yes, I think they’re comparable to a ludlow fit. They’re pretty trim off the rack.
Hi Joe.
I love your site but I’m really disappointed with the Indochino promotion. I tried the promotion that is supposed to be good until tomorrow on the 700 30% 3 times as I was very Iexcited to buy 2 suits. It didnt work and theres no way to contact them except they by web form. We are not off to a good start they and I. I wonder if theres a time diff. I’m on the west coast. Any suggestions? At this point I have no more interest in dealing with anonymous companies.
H
Well I have to amend my last post as I tried one more time to take advantage of the black friday 12 discount and I was successful from my ipad. The buying experience was pretty thorough. Hopefully te rest of the experience will be great. The deal seemed pretty sweet. Thanks for the link Joe.
thanks a lot Joe, ur answers saved me some good money and were spot on!
o n thanks for your review on the daltons, picked em up for 230!!! they came in yesterday and are amazing! amazon had them for 290 on black friday and i threw in the 20% coupon for joining their mailing list that idve never known about if not for this great site. all in all, my best black friday buy by far. also got the clarks original desert boots for 60.
