The Rare Deal – What was out of stock, is now back in stock

October 23, 2012 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Here's why.

Maratac 46mm Pilot Automatic Watch – $195.00

Full credit to Anil for sending in the style tip about these being back in stock.  Meanwhile, the mid-sized 39-40mm pilot watches aren’t back in stock yet (as of post time) but the CountyComm website does say to check back in “Late October 2012”
.

One of the most drooled over casual/rugged watches of the past few years.  Ends up being sold out for long stretches.  Now it’s back in stock and who knows how long that’ll stay the case.  The can’t miss onion crown is something else.  Miyota automatic movement that doesn’t hack, but you can manually wind the watch.  No logo or visible branding of any kind.  Sapphire domed crystal.  Looks like shipping is limited to the U.S.  Has inspired youtube videos with… strange soundtracks.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a way to really mix up the band, maybe check out one of these silicone straps with a stainless deployment buckle.  Pretty slick.  Lugs on this larger watch are 22mm, so if you do want the silicone band you’re limited to just black at this point.  Other colors available at 20mm.

At 104 degrees, it’s only has a fever! The meat isn’t even in rare territory yet.
Btw, Thanks Joe. I’ve never owned so many watches and shoes at one time in my life!

    Glad I could help!

Also, I was wondering is there any guidance on comparing wrist circumference to watch diameter? I have narrow wrists at 6.5″ circumference I generally consider 42mm my limit as far as watch size, what do you guys think?

Stick with the mid-size. There was a thread on this topic on WUS a little while ago. Here is the 39mm on a 6.5″ wrist, and here is the 46mm.

HOLY cow that thing is enormous on a small wrist. I know watches can look ridiculously large in pics via real life, but good grief. Great links Ben. Thanks man.

I have the mid. A friend has the full size. Its a monster! Fun to wear but i makes me feel like Flava Flav. BTW, the mid takes 20 mm straps. I already had some for other watches so that sealed the deal for me. I believe full size takes 22 mm.

Thanks Ben, that makes my decision very easy.

Afraid not. These go really, really quick.

I have the mid-size, it’s sweet. It’s been my daily wear watch since the day I got it.

Good thing my wrist is over 8″. I’m having a hard time, oh, not using sexual puns here; twice.

does anyone know the model of the Taylor watch pictured at the very top?

  15. hornsup84 says

    October 24, 2012 at 7:35 AM

    That’s a (meat) thermometer, not a watch.

  16. hornsup84 says

    October 24, 2012 at 7:37 AM

Further explanation: “Rare”-cooked meat is generally 125 deg (YMMV), so it’s a pun for the “rare deal” title.

    Highly, highly recommend this watch!

I have owned the mid size since December 2011 and it is my daily wearer (I own a Tag, Invicta 8926 & Android Silverjet), you can dress up this watch with a leather Nato, traditional leather strap or make this watch rugged with a plain Nato. The numbers have good lume and the face is “logoless” which makes the watch discrete.

If you are ordering this watch, do you self a favor and order the “Embassy Pen” as well.
