You might think it looks good, but sometimes that’s just not the case. Most of us have been there. Other times, you let your facial hair go, think nothing of it, and it’s an immense hit. Very much inspired by this opening from the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, with a couple of obvious nods on the line to his open. Top Photo Credit: J. Meredith
Ever get a strong reaction, good or bad to a new beard, stubble, or ‘stache? Leave it all in the comments. For more on what may or may not look good to others, women specifically, see this post.
I’ve recently gotten something pretty damn close to the one on the far right of the scale. Problem is, she really loves Halloween, and my costume is going to require a shave. My hair length right now is about right for Affleck in Argo, but my beard ain’t that awesome and “guy in suit from 1980” isn’t much of a costume (also don’t have any lapels that wide; yikes). /dilemma
P.S. Argo is good.
Solved one problem (http://dappered.com/2012/10/offered-without-comment-suitsupplys-san-diego-cut/)
I’m pretty sure if I was on a date and the girl made that comment and then felt up another guys face I would just get up and leave. Talk about tackiness.
I think if you’ve ever had facial hair for any length of time you’ll know that you get almost the entire spectrum here. Just depends on who you’re talking to. Had women who can’t stand my beard, others who literally get mad if I ever shave it off. And being a college guy- all my peers are jealous
I think the comment about Chuck Norris should be as far to the right side of this scale as a round-house kick to the face would place it. After all, Chuck Norris never shaves his beard. It’s hard to shave around that fist he has in place of a chin.
“Until you shave that, I don’t shave anything.” Ha ha ha, my wife has said that to me on occasion.
A couple weeks ago, for the first time, I decided to only leave my ‘stache. I’ve always been a full beard/stubble guy or goatee, never once thought to just leave the ‘stache. What a reaction! I’m in law school, so it was only the reactions of my classmates that I was able to get, but it was mostly positive. I even got this one girl I hadn’t talk to yet come up to me and tell me ” I like the stache!” I’ll definitely be bringing it back by the end of the semester.
You put the Chuck Norris comment left of center??? Sweet fancy Moses!! Joe, change it before finds you!!!
I’m so using “Sweet fancy Moses!!” from now on
“Here’s a napkin, you seem to have something on your chin…” (especially in the case of the “soul patch”)
I’ve considered changing careers just to get facial freedom back.
My first sergeant has stopped saying hello to me in the mornings and just greets my moustache.
Well, I have had a full beard for 32 years. My wife, children and 99% of my friends have never seen me without it. THe comment I get all the time is,”If I could grow a beard that looked like that, I would have one too” And that’s just from my female friends. 😉
