The designer must have been watching Superfly when he came up with those lapels. You can’t realistically wear lapels like that, they’re too aerodynamic and any gust of wind is going to pick you up and set you down 6 feet away.
I really can only guess that the fat lapels of the finely tailored suits of Ron Burgundy were the inspiration for these. They should have left them in the ’70s.

I remember lapels like that back in the 70’s. I guess the fashion industry has to move us away from the current styling back to a different era to keep us buying.suits annd jackets. The days of the short topcoat are surely numbered, mark my words

Retro lapels with a more modern body cut. A bit like what Antony Price made for Bryan Ferry. Interesting!
after skinny lapels, next move is wide lapels, so those fashion oriented coats we bought become obsolete. A typical fashion industry move. It won’t happen over night, but it’s coming. Wide lapels are coming.
I feel like if you wore that jacket in a high wind you might get swept away.

I actually like it. The lapels are a little flamboyant, but it’s certainly not a bad look.
Aside from number one, the rest of the features seem very nice.

I actually like the larger pocket flaps, and I think if the lapels lost an inch or so as well as some of that curvature of the earth schtick they’ve got going on, they’d still be noticeably massive but the jacket would be far more wearable.

The bigger the lapels, the better you can order Italian food. I believe that’s what the general rule of thumb is.

Man, imagine the size of shirt collar and tie knot needed to balance those lapels out!
SuitSupply, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that. You should probably find yourself a safe house or a relative close by.
Lay low for a while, because you’re probably wanted for murder.
That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this. What were they thinking? There’s not 1 person in San Diego that dresses like that now. They should open up a store in San Diego instead.

Those lapels wouldn’t be such an eyesore if the rest of the suit was in proportion. However, since the rest of the suit is in the modern ultra skinny style, it just looks bad.

It’s a strange melange of styles. But hey, what the hell. You know something was bound to follow the trend to skinny and tight. I wouldn’t have guessed wide and tight (and short), but what do I know? I still think skinny jeans look terrible.
Andrewsays
My first thought was that it looks pretty sweet, like a suite a pirate would wear while waving a cutless. It also made me think it should be balanced by a wide hat with a feather in it, so I wonder if this is one of those styles, like a loincloth, that’s relatively site-specific.

This is true. But on another note, DC’s Bond is wearing an ultra-modern suit with narrow lapels, shorter jacket, skinnier tie) in Skyfall, so there’s the opposite of the Roger Moore trend. But for everyone’s sake, I hope we never see lapels THAT wide again. I’m sure the trend will swing back towards wide lapels, but that wide… ? Yikes!
A wide lapel is not a bad thing, look at Tom Fords line F/W this year, but the silhouette should be geometrically proportioned. Look at old Hollywood movies, a wide peak lapel with a double breasted suit was all ways attractive, but the tone of today’s silhouettes are a slim cut, which does not work with a notch lapel shown there. I think Suitsupply may want to drop this style. (I may be wrong, they may be writing orders left and right). Has any one ordered one?

Who wants a lapel that big!?
I was looking for inspiration on what to do with my grandfather’s upholstered chairs…
No dice…. But man does that green wool look beautiful. Make a Napoli in that and I’m in like Flynn
That actually looks like a whale’s vagina. Well played.
Buttons on the jacket look like they’re going to pop off at any moment. Someone could lose and eye.
