A Late October Sale Trifecta

Three sales to end October:  J. Crew Factory, Nordstrom, & Brooks Brothers

So they might not blow your mind, but they’re worth a mention.  Here’s how this all breaks down:

  1. J. Crew Factory is running a 25% off code, MOREPLEASE, plus free shipping until 11/1 if you get on their email list.  Code expires tomorrow, 10/30/12.
    .
  2. The Nordstrom Sale Section appears to have had a fresh injection of some worthwhile, new items.  They don’t do big sale events all that often, so you’ve got to keep an eye on their sale section and check in from time to time.  As always, shipping and returns are free via Nordstrom.com.
    .
  3. Brooks Brothers is doing 15% off for their “preferred customer event” (25% if you use a BB credit card) and free shipping at $200.  Hey, at least it’s something.  No code necessary.  Sale expires 11/4/12.

Got all that?  Not earth shattering stuff, but certainly browse-worthy once you start digging.  For example:
..

J. Crew Factory Bedford Pant – $73.50 w/ MOREPLEASE ($118)
Here’s to hoping they’re not that bright.

So which one is it?  Is it the nuclear bright pair on the left?  Or the awfully slick looking pair on the right?  The shot on the right is in their “What to Wear” feature (slide 8)… but if you click on the text for the pants, it kicks you over to the item page.  A mini would-you-wear-it.  Would you?  Assuming it’s darker like the pants on the right?  UPDATE:  Thanks to JCG in the comments who has these pants and reports that yes, they do look more like the darker pant on the right.  Many thanks to him.

J. Crew Factory Layering Vest – $44.63 w/ MOREPLEASE ($74.50)
Hoping they’re slim.

Haven’t seen it in person, but if it’s as slim as it looks online, then it has major potential.  GQ did a spread about how they’re endorsing layering one of these quilted vests under your suit jacket this season. … ? … Not sure about that look, but vests are a great layering (outer) piece that are especially good if you’re active outside.

J. Crew Factory Thompson Wool Suit – $237.00 w/ MOREPLEASE ($316)
Also available in navy.

Not as low as its ever gone, but who knows if we’ll ever see the Thompson dip back under $200?  Those J. Crew 30% off Sale codes may not work on Factory stuff from here on out.  Still a decent quality suit, especially in the low $200s.  If you’ve got an Alfani RED / Hilfiger budget, but don’t like the shoulder pads on those Macy’s options, then the Thompson is worth a real shot.  Full review of the navy over here.  You may need to get the pants slimmed.

J. Crew Factory Payette Tartan Button Down – $22.13 w/ MOREPLEASE ($59.50)
Color without getting goofy.

Was already on sale for just under $30, now just over $20 which is an especially great price if you’ve signed up for their email list and have free shipping through the end of the month.  Should be great for fall layering under a grey tweed blazer or v-neck.

J. Crew Factory Fair Isle Scarf – $29.63 w/ MOREPLEASE ($49.50)
Fair Isle gateway drug?

Full honesty fellas.  Not all of us here (hi!) “get” the fair isle thing.  But if you want to take that traditional pattern for a spin, but don’t want to be full on immersed in it, try a scarf.  This one is now under $30 and comes in the not-dusty colors of red, white, and blue.  ‘Murica.  Anyway, yes.  That’ll work.  All acrylic, so the discount is well served since you think it’d be wool.

BOSS Rose Gold Automatic Watch – $296.98 ($495)
Tempted at $300?

They nailed the styling on this one but details are a little few and far between on the movement (probably Chinese then) and crystal.  It is available over on the Hugo Boss website, where you can see there’s an exhibition caseback.  The description there also specifies that it’s a 28-day moonphase display which is surrounded by the seconds indicator.

BOSS Black Rectangular Chrono – $176.98 ($295) | Rosetone Chrono – $209.98 ($350)
Same brand mother, very different looking brothers.

Meanwhile, over in the Quartz powered arena… Both are chronographs but they’re designed in opposite color schemes and shapes.  Points to the designers for including that texture on each dial.

Timex Intelligent Quartz Perpetual Calendar – $95.98 ($160)
Much rose-gold bang for few bucks.

And then there’s the more affordable Timex.  Rose-gold plating on a stainless case and a perpetual calendar function so you’ll always know the day and date.  Indiglo and 100m water resistence.

John Varvatos Star USA Cotton Peak Lapel Sportcoat – $99.49 ($199.00)
More spring and summer, but half off now.

Interesting.  A trim fit cotton sportcoat with smaller peak lapels.  It leans a little light for this time of year, but still plenty wearable with jeans and say, a black v-neck.  Sold by Nordstrom so ships and returns free.  Lots of sizes.

Cole Haan Air Jayhawker suede longwing boots – $189.90 ($298)
Rocker. Chalker.

Longwings = the perforations/brogue line extends from the wingtip all the way to the back of the heel, instead of sweeping down mid-foot.  Perfect deep-brown color.  And they do look like you can re-sole them.

Red Wing Classic Moc Boots – $159.90 ($240)
Flip-flops tremble in fear.

And now, a pair of boots you wouldn’t mind getting dirty.  Beasts.  Made in the USA.  Down to $160.

Ecco Pedroso Derby – $149.90 ($229.95)
Dark denim, blue blazer, & these.

A stand out shoe in a subtle color.  Apron toe and grey suede make it feel a little more casual, but these look real sleek.  Wonder how burnished and pre-worn down the suede is at the toe?

Brooks Brothers Cotton Unconstructed Blazer – $105.40 ($248)
Khaki, blue, and lots of sizes.

Already on sale and the extra 15% off drops it to just over $100.  Could be a winner if the off the rack fit isn’t too terrible.  Cotton, unconstructed, and contrasting brown buttons.

Brooks Brothers Buffalo Check Duffel – $211.65 ($498)
King me.

This has been sitting in the sale section for quite awhile.  Just over 2500 cubic inches of space inside the wool/nylon fabric blend exterior.

Brooks Brothers Cognac Card Case –$40.80 ($48)
Maybe a way to get to $200?

As straightforward as it gets.  Great looking cognac color.  Calfskin lined in pigskin.  Shipping is going to add a solid chunk onto the overall cost if you’re thinking about just getting this, so, be warned.

Brooks Brothers “Trim Cut” Lambswool Baseball Sweater – $76.08 ($89.50)
A nice, and expensive, hooded sweatshirt upgrade.

“Trim cut tapers to the waist.”  That’s the key… as long as it’s reasonably true.  They call it a modern fit, so hopefully it wouldn’t fit quite as bulky as Brooks Brothers sweaters tend to.  Forest green body with charcoal sleeves that come up to the shoulders in that classic baseball style.

Brooks Brothers Cotton Rugby Stripe Scarf – $57.80 ($68)
Bright and basic colors.

Still awfully steep for a cotton scarf, but if your usual fall & winter wardrobe is pretty drab and dark, one of the four color combinations available on this scarf could inject a good punch of color into your getup.

Filson Cover Cloth Bomber – $199.75 ($235)
Left pic: Brooks Brothers. Right pic: Filson

No nonsense.  As close to wearing a leather jacket without actually wearing a leather jacket.  Filson’s oil-finish cover cloth, made in the USA, moleskin lined handwarmer pockets, and a classic bomber shape.

The J. Crew Factory 25% off code MOREPLEASE expires 10/30.  The Brooks Brothers 15% off sale ends 11/4.
