Allen Edmonds Rediscover America Sale

Allen Edmonds Rediscover America Sale: 15% – 30% off Everything

The Allen Edmonds Rediscover America Sale is an interesting one.  Almost their entire site is on sale, but they’ve also set aside a handful of shoes and have marked them down to the “best prices of the year.”  They say there’s 13 of these extra marked down shoes (13 original colonies perhaps?) but there’s actually 15.  Picks below marked with a ** are part of this lowest-prices-of-the-year group.  Others that seem to have decent enough markdowns as well as a few select new arrivals that you wouldn’t think would be ripe for big discounts for awhile have also been included.

UPDATE:  Full marks to Eric in the comments for pointing out that Amazon has some of these shoes on sale as well, plus you can lump a $50 off $200 code 2012FALL on them if they’re sold through Amazon.  Not all colors/sizes are available at Amazon, and in fact selection is very scattered over there.  But it’s absolutely worth a look to see if you’ll get lucky.
.

Fifth Avenue – $229.00**($335)
Standing out quietly.  Now more than $100 off.

One of their flagship shoes that won’t ever go out of style.  Built on the trimmer 5 last which is the same platform the Strand and the newer more modern Neumok sits on.  Allen Edmonds describes it as “…the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow foot.”  But they’re also made in wide widths, so wide foots take solace.  Black, burnished brown, and walnut available.  The belle of the markdowns ball at just over 30% off.

Haight Chelsea Boot – $269.00** ($350)
Suit worthy on a bad weather day.

Oof.  That has to be one of if not the best looking chelsea boot out there.  Does have a bit of a chisel toe but the corners on it round out nicely.  Dainite rubber sole with its mini studs.  Big fan of the addition of a medallion.  Now 23% off, but still a big investment at $270.

Norwich Monk Strap – $259.00** ($345)
The monk for the non monk fan?

As subtle as a monk strap can get.  Not a double monk with some super slim profile, but a single plain-toe monk strap that’s slightly elongated.  Yet it still has those familiar AE proportions.  Not cheap, but cheaper.  Now 25% off.
Note:  This is one of those that you might have some luck with over at Amazon.  The code 2012FALL drops them another fifty bucks, to $209.

Cronmok – $219.00** ($275)
Also available in a dark brown and a blue.

Not quite down to the magical under $200 price point.  A new arrival.  More of a risk of  than the Dalton for sure, which is going for a full one hundred dollars more than the Cronmok during the sale.  Now 20% off.

Neumok – $212.50 ($250)
Six total colors available, including a (wait for it) brown.

The Cronmok’s shorter brother.  Peacockin’ but not cocky.  The Neumok is one of the Allen Edmonds models that shows AE won’t get dusty as time goes on.  They’re willing to take risks.  Greenish-olive with blue laces might not flip every skirt, but with enough color options and an extra pair of laces, the Neumok could easily find a home in anyone’s collection.  IF, and it’s a big if, you’re willing to throw down $212 on a pair of unlined casual wingtips.  More photos and a full review here.  Now 15% off.

McTavish – $229.00** ($295)
The very dressed up casual shoe.

The black leather and brown toasted sole McTavish wingtip has been a bit of a siren song around these parts for awhile.  They were way down to $196.90 during the Nordstrom anniversary sale, and more than a few of us are kicking ourselves with our non McTavish clad feet for not jumping on that price then.  Brooks Brothers also sells the very similar “Allen Edmonds Contrast Wingtip” and with the Friends and Family code FNFBB1, they’re now down to $223.50.  But AE chips in free shipping and returns, so… it’s a bit of a wash.  Now 22.4% off.
NOTE:  These are another pair that’s worth investigating over at Amazon.  If Amazon is selling your size and color combo, the code 2012FALL drops them to  a very nice $179.

Black Hills – $219.00** ($275)
Bit of a freak shoe. A beautiful freak.

Say you’re the guy in your dressed down office who likes to dress up.  And your office happens to be in Bemidji.  Here’s your shoe.  Now 20% off.

Eagle County – $297.50 ($350)
Available in black or tan.

Still pretty pricey at almost $300, but you’ve got to wonder if this’ll spark some kind of border war between Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Now 15% off.

Combination Shoe Trees – $19.99 ($24.50)
Like a reverse bra for your kicks. Or something.

Now would probably be a good time to remind everyone that Allen Edmonds provides free shipping no minimum on purchases.  If you have a Nordstrom Rack brick and mortar store near you, you can probably find a pair of shoe trees for around $15, but if you’re without one of those and want some smooth operating shoe trees from the web, these would be them.

Horsehair Brush – $5.95 ($7.00) and Dauber – $2.55 ($3.00)
Still made in the USA.

Awfully nice of them to provide the free shipping.  If your brush stinks, or you’re using those old plastic handled fake sponge daubers, consider the upgrade for the minimal cost.  Remember on the daubers, it’s $2.55 per, not for a pair.  Update: looks like the daubers are now out of stock.

The Allen Edmonds Rediscover America Sale ends Tuesday October 9th.

assuming I a need a new pair of dress shoes (to wear daily/almost daily) is the Fifth Ave a better buy as opposed to the Park Ave?

  4. Erick Johnson says

    September 24, 2012 at 7:51 AM

If memory serves, I believe the Park Ave is also crafted on the 5 last, yes?

Also, you can get most of these through Amazon.com (

so could the mctavish be pulled off with the navy thompson suit? I feel like I should have an aversion to a getup with the suit being cheaper than the shoes, but that’s not the point.

Joe, what do you mean by risk with the cronmok? I’m looking for a boot to pair with jeans, do you think this fit the bill?

  9. mmac says

    September 24, 2012 at 8:30 AM

The one thing i don’t love about these is the closed lacing. It seems to indicate that they are a bit more on the formal side; I would probably prefer open. That said, I would wear these in a heartbeat – I especially like the tan.

  10. Joe says

    September 24, 2012 at 8:39 AM

I think they’ll absolutely go with jeans. Like mmac says, the closed true-oxford style lacing makes them a bit of an interesting hybrid. They’re also pretty unstructured. It’s not incredibly noticeable in the leather options (suede on the Neumok it is more noticeable) but they don’t have an inner-lining. So there’s just a little less structure there.

  11. Joe says

    September 24, 2012 at 8:41 AM

The McTavish is part of their rough collection, but it’s a pretty cleaned up option. It has some wax-infused leather that won’t look as polished, but the navy thompson has that texture. As long as you’re keeping it casual with your shirt/tie, then yeah, I think they could fly in brown.

    Good lookin’ out.

  13. Joe says

    September 24, 2012 at 8:46 AM

VERY nice. You gotta think that Allen Edmonds wouldn’t be so happy with Amazon though, for sorta coming over the top with better prices during their big sale event. But Amazon doesn’t seem to have every size/color combo compared to the AE site. Still, updated above. Thanks Eric.

Joe – Which are you a bigger fan of – the Park Ave or the Fifth Ave?

  17. Forrest says

I want those Cronmoks… but my discretionary income already went to Bonobos (to get the $88 credit) and Ratio for this month. And I’d like to get a new jacket for a couple upcoming weddings.

I got the McTavish from Amazon as well. It’s hard to tell from just pics but I’m trying to figure out if it’s versatile enough to wear with dark denim.

  20. Skyler G. says

    September 24, 2012 at 11:17 AM

Just wondering what the appeal of a chelsea boot is over a lace-up? Wondering cause I really like those chelsea boots but generally prefer lace up boots and it making me torn over the boot. Any outside opinions?

  21. George A. Onofre says

    September 24, 2012 at 11:24 AM

If you plan on buying through Amazon, better strike while the iron is hot. Their prices change at the drop of a hat. A month ago I watched the McTavish jump from 294 to 265 to 229 and then repeat the cycle. I ordered the McTavish Fri night/Sat morning at 265, only to cancel and re-order Sat afternoon at the new price of 229. Minus the 50, of course!

  22. Skyler G. says

    September 24, 2012 at 11:27 AM

The strand went up 5 dollars in 3 hours, it started at 265 (in my size) this morning (before I knew about the sale) and went up to 271 half an hour ago

  23. Farhan says

    September 24, 2012 at 11:45 AM

George is totally correct. I usually put stuff I’m considering in my cart. I’ll then log in once a day and it automatically tells me the price changes on anything that is in my cart. That’s how I noticed the McTavish had dropped from $294 to $229 almost overnight.

  24. KingCreole says

    September 24, 2012 at 11:52 AM

Amazon has one pair (11D) of the AE cronmok’s [with blue laces…?] but with the $50 off you grab these for under $200. Wish they had tens

  27. Skyler G. says

Anything over $250, you get a better discount using the 20% off coupon for signing up for the newsletter. (50/250= 20% discount, anything over 250 makes it <20%)

  28. apm says

    September 24, 2012 at 11:58 AM

I want the Park Avenues but $110 shipping to London – ouch!

  29. KingCreole says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:04 PM

Obviously no AE’s, but there are similar (looking) Steve Madden evanders for $115: http://www.amazon.com/Steve-Madden-Evander2-Lace-Up-Leather/dp/B0079UYOYM/ref=sr_1_27?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1348509624&sr=1-27&keywords=steve+madden

I have had mixed results with steve madden’s build quality. Worth the buy?

  30. Shawn says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:06 PM

Spoke to Amazon help via chat. They said that the promotion isn’t valid on this pair because it doesn’t explicitly say to use the code in the “Product promotions” section.

Then again, it doesn’t say that code for shoes that DO qualify, either. 🙁

  31. Andy says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:06 PM

UPDATE- Just chatted with Amazon, the $50 off does not work for CRONMOK, not sure about other AE, but you can’t use it for them. Bummer!

  32. Shawn says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:14 PM

Could anyone enlighten me on what they mean by “Unstructured” premium leather on the Cronmoks?

  33. Furious Styles says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:15 PM

I hear such great reviews from owners on them (not just on Dappered) that I think that’ll be my first deep pocket shoe investment.

  34. Shawn says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:18 PM

Signed up for the newsletter. No discount. 🙁

  35. Farhan says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:24 PM

When you go to checkout, look right under where your credit card info is located. It will give you an option to use your promo ‘credit’. Don’t use the code they give you in the email unless you’re sure you want to buy an item that’s over $250 because it won’t let you get rid of that ‘promo credit’ until you make a purchase. I had to use it and then cancel it to use the 2012FALL code since that gave me a better discount on these $229 shoes.

  36. Shawn says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:33 PM

There wasn’t any code in the email from AE in the first place.

  37. Shawn says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Looking back, I signed up for the AE newsletter, but I think you meant the Amazon.com newsletter.

Do you have a link to sign up? The 20% off would work better for me than 2012fall.

  38. Shawn says

    September 24, 2012 at 12:47 PM

    Never mind, found it:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html/ref=pe_86220_25405860_pe_b1/?tag=dealnewscom&ie=UTF8&node=5637565011

Also, this code DOES work on the Cronmoks.

  53. Jimmy says

    September 25, 2012 at 5:04 PM

If you call their customer service (LE), you might be able to get them
to apply it. Depends on the representative but it has been done. You’re
basically playing on their “stupidity,” which might be a bit immoral.

  54. Jimmy says

    September 25, 2012 at 5:05 PM

Not even close to AE’s quality. If anything, get seconds by emailing their shoebank. You can get great models from the $100-$200 range.
