In Person: Allen Edmonds Rutledge – $445.00
Consider this week of giveaways a thanks. Without your readership, your emails, your terrific comments, and your willingness to spread the word, Dappered wouldn’t exist. The collection of good guys who frequent this corner of the internet is by far the greatest achievement of this website. Good luck, and once again, thanks a million.
The Allen Edmonds Rutledge is named after the youngest person to sign the Declaration of Independence, which is incredibly appropriate being that they’re a shoe that leans younger in styling, but they’re still rooted in tradition.
Built on the brand new welted 3-333 last, it’s slightly elongated but not over done. The toe has a slight chisel to it but it’s gradual and the lines fade down perfectly. There’s noticeable burnishing on the walnut (shown) but it’s not splotchy or obnoxious. The Rutledge isn’t a Lincoln Town Car, and it’s no Lamborghini. It’s the shoe version of an Aston Martin Vantage. It’s a muscular yet still sleek shoe you can’t help but notice, even though it’s not begging you to. Their noses even look a little alike, complete with the wheeled edges giving it a bit of all around grill.
Leather is the expected high quality and flexible. Lined in “glove soft” leather that’s true to the name. Seems to fit true to size, and wide as well as narrow widths are available.
Would look dynamite with a navy suit. Even say, the new and inexpensive J. Crew Factory worsted. Catch a sale on the suit and your shoes would cost twice as much as your jacket and pants. No shame in that. None. Especially when your shoes look and feel like these do.
Win it: To enter to win a pair of Allen Edmonds Rutledge in your size and width, send your first and last name in an email to contests@dappered.com w/ the subject: “Rutledge”. One entry per person. Deadline: 11:59pm E.T. 7/31/12. Good luck, and thanks to Allen Edmonds for providing the shoes for Reader Appreciation Week.
UPDATE: Congrats to James R. who won the pair of Allen Edmonds. Thanks to Allen Edmonds & all who entered!
In!
Wow.
Well. Done.
Do you need to be in the US to enter
Starts off strong? Understatement of infinity.
Those are nice shoes. They would go with a medium charcoal suit as well as navy.
If this is how Reader Appreciation Week starts, I can’t imagine what the other days will bring.
Once i stop salivating ill enter!
Damnnnn
in!
i want these!
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Do you get to choose.your size in these contests if you win?
Amazing opening item for the week!
Wow. That is a beautiful pair of shoes. Even if I don’t win I may end up owning some anyways!

nice description
As someone who is just getting started on this journey towards classic style, these would be perfect as I have just gotten rid of two pair of chunky soled, square toed brown shoes. These are beautiful.
Want.
Amen. I got my first pair of Allen Edmonds at a thrift store for about $30. They were already broken in, and that split-second that I stood up and looked down at my feet, I realized what a huge difference a nair pair of shoes make.
Delicious. I was just looking at one of these, but with the burnish at the toe. I salute you, Joe.
Damn those are great
Thank you!
Awesome!
I just scored a pair of black pair of AE monks for $25 on eBay. My first pair, I can’t wait until they arrive
They are quite beautiful in walnut, but a brown pair would be the perfect compliment to my ever-growing shoe collection.
I would love to know this as well since Canadians seem to usually get (unfortunately) shafted on a lot of the better “opportunities” from shipping and such.
These are absolutely stunning. I’m in awe.
Nah, we’ll spring for the international shipping on this end if the winner is outside of the US.
Yep. Absolutely.
Joe – You’re the man.
Precisely what I was looking for, my brown shoes in rotation are about to be non-usable anymore. These are great (I would say perfect) brown shoes.
This would work perfect for a wedding I have in 2 weeks 🙂
A masterpiece in shoe craft.
I am a man. Not “the” man… I don’t think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VF5P7qLaEQ (Thanks though. And thanks to all of you guys for making the site a success.)
Awesome shoes! Very classy.
Oh yes! AEs!
Too elongated for me. beside that, awesome pair of shoes.
That’s the way to go. If you can find a pair for that cheap (and it’s possible a surprising amount of the time), you can get them recrafted through AE and will essentially have a new pair of shoes for half the price.
Awww Joe loves us Canucks <3
I think I may want these shoes more than any of the other contest prizes.
Very sharp. If the AE Strand met a nice European girl and they had a child… Anyways,I love my Strands. In fact, they are my favorite of the 3 AE’s in my rotation but I would sure love a pair of these! I love that closed lacing, all of the details, and that rich brown color. These give me yet another reason to not buy black shoes.
Out of curiousity, what do you do with all of our information that you collect?
Really hope I get these haha. It truly is a handsome shoe!!! I love the way the burnishing shows up; most of the time, shoemakers destroy their shoe with too much or too little burnishing. These will definitely look great on us young guys.
Other than draw a winner from the pile? Nothing. We certainly don’t add it to our daily email blast list, and we sure as hell don’t sell them. Our privacy disclosure is at the bottom of the page if you want to give that a look.
I’m a fan. Much love (pounds chest, points north)
Oh man, Joe. Nice pick. What a gorgeous pair of shoes.
So in!
Seriously, those shoes are sweet. I mean they’re nice…..um…..errr,,,,,I want ’em
thems some pretty shoes
A beautiful example of footwear! Thanks for including us international readers in the competition too, it’s much appreciated
(Fingers Crossed)
great looking shoe!
Those are something special
Well said my friend.
Thanks. I know it sounds like a dumb question but I wasn’t sure if AE just sent you a size 11 shoe as a giveaway or if they just gave you credit to choose whichever size you desire.
I’ve never seen these in person, but I think they look better than the Strands!
Every day this week I’ve been surprised and delighted by the contest offerings. I’ve never posted before, but I started coming to this site a few months back, and I love it. I’m not the most stylish dude, so honestly, its really cool to have this as a resource. Keep up the great work!
If the front of the toe is darkened the antique effect would’ve made more sense.
