Style Debate: Anthony Davis’ Unibrow

.
Not too long before becoming the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, former Kentucky basketball player Anthony Davis had trademarked the phrases: “Fear the Brow” and “Raise the Brow”, which are obvious nods to his appearance.  He plans to keep the taboo follicle connection because it’s unique.

The Case FOR Anthony Davis keeping the unibrow:  More power to him.  He took something that people normally pounce on and make fun of to no end, and turned it around into a huge positive.  That doesn’t happen everyday and he’s setting a hell of an example.  His unibrow makes him instantly recognizable, and if he pans out into the shot-blocking, post-dominating beast NBA scouts think he will, then he stands to make even more money because of it.  Talent is one thing, but talent + a unique & recognizable trait = another.  His unibrow already has its own facebook page with 10,000 likes.  That’s power.  Gotta love this young man’s attitude.  Most 19-year-olds don’t have the guts to wear a go-to-hell piece of grooming, or lack thereof, on their face.

The Case AGAINST Anthony Davis keeping the unibrowThis is great.  All credit to him for embracing it.  But eventually it’s gonna have to go.  A unibrow, in a very, very small way, is similar to devastating cleavage.  It’s a choice, and it’s a distraction.  You can’t NOT look at it.  It’s like being challenged to not think of anything at all, only to end up creating a 100 foot tall, fluffy, delicious monster.  Right.  Same thing.  Davis risks being mainly defined by his appearance, which isn’t something anyone should actively strive for.  He’s typecasting himself in a way.

Your turn guys.  Is Anthony Davis making the right move?  Should he get rid of it now (say, in some sort of event where it’s waxed/plucked off for charity?)  Or is this genius?  And did you ever sport a unibrow?  If so, for how long?
