It’s a Wednesday, which means a lot of guys might find a 40% off one item, one time use code from Banana Republic lurking in their inbox today. They’ve been doing that this month for those on their email list. Might happen today, might not. Check your spam folder though if you haven’t found one.
UPDATE: Doesn’t look like they sent them out today?
Meanwhile, it’s 30% off all GAP inc brands today whether you’ve surrendered your email or not. You can shop all three brands if you need to in order to hit the $50 free shipping threshold. No single-item restrictions here. 30% off code JULY2012 is up for anyone to use. Off we go:

Getting awfully close to Suit Supply range, and those are canvassed (or half canvassed). But that said, and not to get over excited, but this might be the best feeling and looking fused suit out there. Costs more than the Factory Thompson (new navy hasn’t shown up yet) but this thing looks, feels, and fits incredible. The wool doesn’t say it’s from some fancy pants Italian mill, yet it feels higher quality than normal. Has a noticeable, solid weight to it. Feels sturdy and flexible when you slip the jacket on. Pants too. Higher arm holes and slim shoulder pads. Great waist taper. It feels really well made, and the plaid pattern is real subtle, but still noticeable within 6 or 7 feet. Hope it hits the sale section at some point.
*NOTE: If you did get a 40% off code, you could use it on a suit jacket, complete your purchase, then buy the pants in a separate purchase for 30% off. Pretty sure that’s all fair, well, and good.
Meanwhile, here’s something. They’ve added these words to the description of this and the grey plaid above: “Full lining adds structure and weight to drape smoothly.” They trying to make it sound like it has some kind of canvas in there? Didn’t pinch-test the grey jacket in store, just noticed this now, and a customer service call was no help. Assume fused until further notice. Like the grey plaid suit above, this isn’t from the Monogram collection so the code works. This one does come with wool sourced from an Italian wool. Tried to scout it in store but… no luck.
Wasn’t ever really a believer in Banana Republic’s casual shirts until their slim fit soft wash plaid shirt showed up at the home offices after a sale purchase. Fit is awesome, feel is great. It’s not wildly slim (think, Bonobos oxford trim. Not tight, but not huge) but there’s plenty of give and the collar is terrific. Built well too. Not oxford cloth, but not skinny poplin either. A white, button down, do-anything-casual shirt isn’t easy to find anymore. This one gets the job done, and with another purchase right around $10 you can score free shipping. Boring, basic, but good to have.
For the “I just want a rain coat” set. Seems a little high right now. Might come down more? All poly.
“Self-tie at waist with buckle.” Well… let’s SEE it then Gap. Wasn’t in store yet, and the pics online don’t show you what the thing looks like closed up. No real visible belt loops on the front. Down to Macy’s INC prices with the code, and a very encouraging 60% cotton 40% nylon mix.
One of the few short sleeve shirts out there that might actually look kinda slick with trim chinos and a tie. No collar stay slots though. So stick to real relaxed slim ties that are either knit or made from a matte fabric like cotton.
That ribbed detailing on the shoulders? Look familiar? It’s 100% cotton, so it might be subject to shrinkage. The Nordstrom version is a cotton blend that has some give and feels strong. These… just cotton. Anyone else ever blown out an armpit seam on an all cotton sweater? Be warned…
These are surprisingly good. Perfect free shipping balance tippers. As long as you’re close. Not as good of a fit as the mossimos from Target, but decent. A little long, so if you’re tall, then you’re set. Great fit as long as you SIZE DOWN. On sale for $6, down from just shy of $10. UPDATE: Looks like those rugby stripe tees aren’t available online? ‘kay.
Price is tempting, and it’s completely unstructured… but it’s awfully slim in the arms and boxy through the torso. Tail is awfully short too. Might work for some, but most will want to steer clear of it.
