The Huckberry Eliminator – Day 2

June 26, 2012 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Also, we take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

The Eliminator – Five from Huckberry

Here’s how this works: Each day we’ll eliminate an item until only one remains.  Vote for the item you’d LEAST like to own at the bottom of the page.  The item with the most votes gets ejected at the end of the day.  The item that remains at the end of this battle royal will be won by one of you with an enter to win post firing off on Friday.

About Huckberry: It’s not easy to stand out in the world of flash sale websites, but Huckberry does it.  With an emphasis on the outdoors and active lifestyle gear, they nail the upscale-rugged thing.  Also, their sales are often littered with made in the USA goods.  All of these items will have been available through Huckberry at some point.
.

Taylor Stitch Black Gingham English Dress Shirt – $125

Made in San Francisco by a company that also makes custom shirts (those run $150 – $300+).  This one is an off the rack model, but with a tailored fit, high armhole, and single needle construction with double stitched buttons and button holes, it’s one of those shirts that’ll blow away the rest of your collection.  Black and white gingham with a spread collar.  No pleats since the guys at Taylor Stitch want to make it as easy as possible for you to iron.

ELIMINATED – “Handsome Dan” Leather Head Football – $120.00

If an old dog-chewed NERF turbo is at one end of the spectrum, then this football sits on the complete opposite end.  Functional art.  Hand-made in the USA from amazing looking, rich leather from Prime Tannery in Maine.  Made it into the Art of Manliness Father’s Day Huckberry shop.

Braun Analog Date Black – $210

Sharp, clean, and a legendary no nonsense design.  Quartz movement, 150′ water resistance, and scratch resistant mineral glass.  Braun watches and clocks were out of production for years, but they’ve started production once again.  Was being offered on Huckberry pre-father’s day with different levels of thank-you credits with purchase.  Luckily for all of us, they set one aside for someone to potentially win.

BCX Pathfinder Axe in Black & Orange “Titan” color scheme – $210.00

Lightweight and versatile, it’s perfect for splitting firewood into kindling, clearing your way, or, uh, just about anything else you could use an easy to wield axe for.  All while looking incredible.  Drop forged high carbon, fine grain 1.75 lb steel head, hand tempered and ground in Maine. 26″ hickory handle.  Comes with a leather head cover.

Critical Cycles Cream/Brown/Black Fixed Gear – $219.00

A brand new bike brand that launches next month, and they promise to deliver single speed bikes “with a component set that is ideal for riding around town”.  Equipped with a flip-flop hub so you can ride it as fixed-gear, or, switch cogs and now your bike has a freewheel like a standard single speed.  Nifty.  Protek cranks, Sunrun freewheel, KMC chain, Wanda Tires, Well-Go pedals, and Promax brakes.  $219 total cost with free shipping in the continental US.  More proof here that black and brown (or cream) really can go together.

Pick the item that you’d LEAST like to win and vote below to have it eliminated.  One item gets cut every day.  The item that’s left at the end of the week will be up for grabs and you’ll be able to enter to win on Friday.  Make your case for what needs to go and/or what should stay in the comments.  Voting closes at 11:59pm ET.

Which Huckberry item should be ELIMINATED?

  • The Taylor Stitch Gingham Shirt (10%, 162 Votes)
  • The Braun Analog Date Black Watch (21%, 330 Votes)
  • The BCX Pathfinder Axe (54%, 843 Votes)
  • The Critical Cycles Fixed Gear Bike (16%, 247 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,575

Riding around town with a fixed speed bike sounds painful. Maybe if I still lived in the Midwest, sure – I don’t think I ever used the gears on my bike in college – but I used all 14 of the ones that work on my bike now, just on the way to the grocery store last night.

Voting against the watch (again). It just doesn’t look that great. There are quite a few better-looking Bauhaus watches out there.

Plus I’m not sure I want a watch from the same company that makes electric shavers and kitchen appliances.

  3. kevind says

    June 26, 2012 at 7:13 AM

    Get rid of the axe

  4. Mike N says

    June 26, 2012 at 7:31 AM

Again voting on the watch. I really do not like it. Looks like something I’d get at Ikea

  5. Harrison Ambs says

It blows my mind that this Fixie is still on here, and that apparently my fellow Dappered readers don’t have trees on their property with huge limbs.

Although, I think we should just declare the Gingham the winner since I’m pretty sure we all saw that spread collar and fell in love.

  6. AndrewM says

    Still don’t like the watch

  7. JacksonNC says

    June 26, 2012 at 7:58 AM

Still going with knocking off the shirt, but the ax is very close behind.

  8. hbc14 says

    June 26, 2012 at 8:14 AM

Get rid of the shirt, the bike, axe and watch are much cooler and more unique. The shirt you can get anywhere anytime and for MUCH cheaper.

  9. Keith says

    June 26, 2012 at 8:18 AM

I agree, that shirt’s gotta go. Still, I can’t believe that sweet football is gone! :: sob ::

  10. tim says

    June 26, 2012 at 8:23 AM

I feel like the shirt is the only thing that appeals to me.

  11. Jeff says

    June 26, 2012 at 8:39 AM

Yes, the axe is odd, but that watch is disgusting.

  12. B97209 says

    June 26, 2012 at 8:45 AM

Looks like most people don’t know or appreciate a good ax. It is one of the best axes you can buy. It’s like a $3k bike or a $200 shirt. BTW, the link to “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” is quite appropriate. Clearly the watch should go.

  13. BenR says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:05 AM

Where do you get shirts for cheaper than free?

  14. Joe says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:19 AM

Lovely. Let’s try and keep the mudslinging to a minimum ‘kay? I appreciate all of the makers getting on board with the giveaway. Try not to make our little website look too crummy in their minds. Smooches.

  15. Aaron Levy says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:43 AM

Come on kids, it’s a DESIGNER AXE. Unless you’re showing it off in your fake ted nugent modeled apartment, there is no need for a designer axe.

  16. SolefulStrut says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:49 AM

Please keep the axe. The bicycle has to go as it is having an identity crisis. It cannot make up its mind if it wants to be a racer or a cruiser.

  17. Dan Patrick Flores says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:54 AM

Aww man, I want the axe! (Yes I know this is a fashion site, so the shirt will win)

  18. Mardon says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:58 AM

I’m sure that axe swings great and chops wood like it’s butter, but I don’t think I’ll ever need it in the near future.

  19. Dan Patrick Flores says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:59 AM

    Narnia?

  20. Nicholas Crawford says

  21. Hans Braggart says

I do NOT want that Axe.

  22. Jake says

    June 26, 2012 at 10:47 AM

Why don’t any of you want that axe?!?! It’s looks freakin’ awesome, even if you don’t use it.

  23. Anthony says

    June 26, 2012 at 11:09 AM

i do not want to see the axe go… it is sick.

  24. RBiggs2342 says

    June 26, 2012 at 11:57 AM

Something about the axe from BCX bugs me…its not clear to me whether this company manufactuers the axes or just sells them, and it is entirely unclear why these axes have suddenly become a topic on fashion blogs (will Dappered be reviewing cordless drills next?). I know BCX started as Best Made Company, an artsy boutique that paints pretty patterns on axe handles so that the axes can be resold for double the original price…and they sell them in a boutique in Manhattan, a place where nobody splits wood. I get the sneaking suspicion that rich kids and wealthy stock traders buy one of these axes to hang on the wall…a consumerist expression of their hunter/gatherer longings.

  25. Andy Y says

    June 26, 2012 at 12:08 PM

Get rid of the axe already!

  26. TheTieMan says

    June 26, 2012 at 12:17 PM

That shirt is going all the way.

  27. passing dude says

    June 26, 2012 at 12:40 PM

perhaps you’ve got fat and/or unfit since college? Unless you live in SF, I really don’t see what’s all the fuss is about on fixed speed, people. Sure, I live in NYC where it’s mostly flat, but how about getting off the couch and going to the gym once a while, huh?

  28. ArtP says

    June 26, 2012 at 1:39 PM

Voted against the watch myself. I typically like simple and understated watched but this one just doesnt do it for me.

  29. Paul Stagg says

    June 26, 2012 at 1:46 PM

I don’t need an axe. I don’t want an axe. I don’t cut firewood, I live in a city. For self defense, I prefer my S&W Bodyguard 380

  30. Kyle says

    June 26, 2012 at 1:52 PM

the economy has made bullets expensive… now we have to hack each other apart with Lexus axes

  31. Eric Henao says

    June 26, 2012 at 1:54 PM

We can do much better with that amount of cash for the watch. While the ax is overpriced, I think it rocks. I love bikes, but don’t think the fixie is gonna make it. Shirt will win it. All the way.

  32. Joe says

    June 26, 2012 at 2:02 PM

ohhhhkay. Let’s go easy with the personal insults. Thanks.

  33. Walter George Kealey says

    June 26, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Why would anyone want such a crappy bike?

  34. Walter George Kealey says

    June 26, 2012 at 2:40 PM

I live in Philadelphia and ride a fixed gear bike exclusively. I had a car and sold it. They’re a hard sell at first, but now on a conventional geared bike I feel like I have no control.

With a fixed gear, you lose a lot of weight and make the maintenance super easy. But it’s really to each their own.

  35. Nima Beheshti says

    June 26, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Whats with the flak against the axe? what, like none of us have owned cool-looking useless stuff before. And have none of you ever played Left4Dead? Try telling me its useless.

  36. LV says

    June 26, 2012 at 3:25 PM

Which of these, if being given away, would I sign up to be in the running for? That’s the question, not whether you like or don’t like it, or wouldn’t wear it. I can always use a free anything, even if giving away as a gift. Still, a whole bike? Not bad. A new watch, sure. Try out a new shirt for free? You bet! An axe? Sadly, it’d sit in a corner of my apartment, creeping out the lady guests.

  37. Joe says

    June 26, 2012 at 3:37 PM

Ha! Would make a fine piece of functional art too. Better looking than most framed prints to me.

  38. Shane Shepherd says

    June 26, 2012 at 3:51 PM

I voted for the watch again too. I don’t wear watches. I’m sad to see the axe going down the drain so early…I would use that all the time. Ultimately I’m rooting for the shirt or the bicycle to make it through though.

  39. BenR says

    June 26, 2012 at 4:36 PM

I think I’d rather go free-wheel than fixie. I live in the Rockies, in a mountain town. My concern isn’t that I couldn’t pedal myself up an incline, but that I would probably wreck my feet trying to go DOWN hills. The ride from my house to my workplace drops about 300 vertical feet in the space of 3/4 mile – I get up to 40mph going down that hill, and I don’t want my feet anywhere near fixed-gear pedals at that speed.
But I’m more of a recreational mountain and trail biker than a commuter. I like having plenty of gears to choose from.

really? an axe? who needs that thing

  41. Noah says

    June 26, 2012 at 5:26 PM

I sadly had to vote for the axe again… But only because I don’t actually need an axe, i think we already have 3 🙂
I find it sad that the football is gone, wouldn’t of minded getting that…But I think if the axe is eliminated, it will be very hard tomorrow because I want everything that is left.. It will be a hard choice.

  42. odinbearded says

    June 26, 2012 at 5:56 PM

Why exactly is it one of the best axes you can buy? Why is it superior to an axe from an actual axe maker like Gransfors? Go to their site and all you get is a lot of marketing fluff about how they sand and paint the handles. There’s no discussion of who actually makes the heads (Best Made Co bought their heads from a very reputable supplier, then polished them and quadrupled the price). BCX sells an axe “inspired” by racing axes. It costs $450. You can buy an actual racing axe for less than that. Not a second-tier copy, mind you, but the exact same model used by real competition lumberjacks. Not IT professionals who get bored.

I’ve got nothing against BCX. If you have a passion and can turn it into a living, go for it. But they’re selling a mythos, not an axe. It’s a beautiful mythos to be sure. But don’t mistake it for something it’s not.

  43. Belle says

    June 26, 2012 at 6:49 PM

I ride a single speed bike on a daily basis. It’s great for strengthening your legs. I haven’t tried the other hub as a fixie but I have no desire too since I like coasting. But as an exercise vehicle, I could see the value of a fixie going downhill.

  44. Scott says

    June 26, 2012 at 9:04 PM

How can you not love the axe?

  45. Christopher Chan says

    Ax the axe.

  46. Patrick says

The bike looks great. But how good can it be at at price?

  47. Mike says

I vote Fixie off the island.

  48. Ev Junior says

    June 27, 2012 at 9:49 AM

I actually want the axe for my zombie bug-out kit. That bike wouldn’t really do the trick for me.

  49. Bo says

    June 27, 2012 at 10:11 AM

BCX Pathfinder Axe gets my vote. I personally don’t have any use for an axe, and I agree with other posters that I’m curious as to why it’s even on here!

    No love for the axe.
