Every so often a weekend comes along where there’s a decent batch of sales, but none of the sales produce enough solid finds to warrant your full attention. This appears to be one of those weekends. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
.
Ralph Lauren: Extra 25% off Sale items with RLEXTRA25 (exp. 7/9/12)

The Picks: Telly Grain Loafer – $52.49 ($99) | Custom Fit Indigo Plaid – $41.24 ($98)
Lots of affordable stuff to choose from here if you keep it limited to their more accessible Polo line. A bunch of their driving shoe styles are on sale (sidenote, these aren’t on sale, but they’re holding up great). Along with the basic drivers, there’s the oft mentioned Roderick Calf driver with the rawhide boat-shoe like lacing. The Indigo Plaid comes in RL’s much, much closer “custom fit” and should look terrific under a summer blazer with jeans, or, as a monster pop of color with a summer suit. Don’t forget, you have to use the code RLEXTRA25 to get the above prices.
Zara: Summer Clearance Sale

The Pick: Cotton/Linen 2-button patch pocket blazer – $69.99 ($99.90)
It looks awfully chopped, so if you’re tall, skip it. But for an ultra-casual wear it out and beat it up blazer, it has real potential. 84% cotton and 16% linen. Three colors available, one of which is pink. Other two are a light blue and the beige seen here. Free shipping and free returns.
Urban Outfitters: “The Big Ass Sale”

The Pick: Hawkings McGill Wingtip Boot in Leather – $34.99 or Suede – $24.99 ($78)
And after all this time, UO still hasn’t changed the pic on their websites to accurately reflect what the suede option looks like in person (pic above is accurate… not nearly as rich as the pictures they have on the site.) The personal pair of Hawkings McGill wingtip boots are doing just fine. They do require a little cognac leaning orange colored shoe creme to touch up the toes every now and then, but they’re still going strong. Review on those here, and a review on the suedes here. Many thanks to reader Adam for sending in the style tip on this one, and points to Urban Outfitters for just being blunt with their sale’s name.
GAP: Red, Bright + Blue Sale – Up to 40% off
(expires 7/4 online)

The Pick: Garment-dyed washed blazer – $78.40
($98)
Another super casual blazer, but this one leans even more casual than the Zara option. Also unlike the Zara option, this one appears to not be chopped too short in the tail. Haven’t seen it in person yet. Have a similar looking blazer from GAP that was purchased 4 or 5 years ago, and it’s a terrific lazy piece you can put on, ball up, and thrown in a corner. Good for vacation travels where you’re headed somewhere less than fancy.
Original Penguin
: 40% off w/ EMPOP0620 | Perry Ellis:
40% off w/ STPESU40

The Picks: OP Slim Earl Polo – $41.40 ($69) | OP Gym Bag – $27.00
($45)
OP and PE are owned by the same company, and they’re both running 40% off site wide codes. The Perry Ellis codes expires today, 6/29, with the Original Penguin Code getting kicked to the curb on 7/1. Free shipping on Perry Ellis orders, but not on Original Penguin. It’s tough to find Earl Polos on sale in regular colors, and while $41.40 is still a hefty price tag for a single polo, you’re paying for the unique style. The bag might make a nice upgrade if your current gym bag is trashed. It’s small at 1100 cubic inches of space. For Perry Ellis… not a lot there. Maybe a plain white slim fit shirt in the low $20s or these shoes
for around $70? At least there’s free shipping through Perry Ellis.
Pulled the trigger on both the UO boots for right at $60 and free shipping. They seem to be a polarizing set of boots. Some people really like them. Others say they fall apart. Hopefully they turn out to be a decent purchase!
I had to get both pairs of those wingtip boots. The price is just too ridiculous with free shipping and returns over $50 not to. Thanks!
Express is also running a big sale, 70% off of sale items with an extra 30% off of that. You can pick up that fitted Express polo that was featured in the polo article here in L or XL for $13.99 plus shipping. (http://www.express.com/fitted-signature-stretch-polo-48936-80/refine/size/Large/control/page/26/show/3/index.pro#jsLink).
The Hawking-McGill look like cowboy boots on! Grrrrrr.
Picked up both UO boots for the free shipping and (potentially) free returns. Hope they work out, thanks for the tip!
Has anyone gotten the OP code to work? I think the sale going on on the site is blocking the code out.
Thanks, but it’s been picked clean by now. Polos are all out unfortunately. In other news, J. Crew Factory has a 40% off sale on select items. http://bit.ly/NXcnYd
Same here. But the 30% off they are giving already ain’t too shabby….
Fortunately for my bank account there aren’t any Zara blazers in Small or Suede boots in 9. Maybe next time.
Doesn’t work for me either.
That’s odd. Code isn’t set to expire until 7/1. Annoying. I’ll send an email and see what’s up.
No they… dont? Toe isn’t nearly tall enough, heel is slim too… I don’t think they look like cowboy boots in the least.
LEC has their summer sale as well.
Had mine for awhile now and they’re holding up real well.
Any size recs on the zara blazer, i usually go medium for all things above the waist, but their sizing chart puts a 40 chest (me) as a large
I got a pair of the suede ones last fall and wore them probably 3-4 days a week most of the fall and spring. The suede has held up as well as I might have expected, but the heel is made of some pretty cheap material and wears down into the interior of the heel pretty quickly, at least walking on NYC sidewalks. I love the boots, don’t get me wrong, so I’m thinking of getting the leather pair as well, but does anyone have a suggestion for how to reinforce the heels so that they don’t wear out so quickly?
Scored a pinstripe suit on Perry Ellis for $85. Hoping it works out!
If you are in any way a tall man, Zara is out. Short to medium sized men need only apply.
Thanks for the input guys! I’m looking foward to receiving them. Been eyeing them for a while… For the heel, I suppose you could take it to a cobbler and have them place some type of buffer under the heel to slow wear? I’ve bought little pads for dress shoes before that were supposed to slow “wear and tear” and add traction. I don’t know if they make the same for shoes. OR – you could buy some very low grit sandpaper/skateboard tape and stick it to the underside of the shoe. Then everyone you know will be trying to find ways to make their hardwood floors last longer, and your (our?) shoes will look great!
I was checking out UO other shoe options & discovered the unthinkable. A really classy looking brogue, sans laces.

.
I’d go large. Zara runs small.
Follow up: The folks at OP fixed the issue and the code EMPOP0620 should now be working for 40% off…
Try a thin layer of shoe goo
It always leaves quite a sour taste in my mouth when online stores don’t ship to APO addresses…and I was looking at some nice things on Zara. Shame, shame…
Ordered the Hawking-McGill. Can’t wait to get them. I’ve had my eye on them since you first reviewed but haven’t been able to justify pulling the trigger until now.
