Macy’s One Day Sale Picks, March 2 – 3

Macy’s One Day Sale Picks – March 2 – 3, 2011

As always, it’s incredibly tough to peg when Macy’s will launch a One Day Sale.  Sometimes a month and a half will go by between them, sometimes only a few weeks will pass.  One thing is certain: These are usually sales worth paying attention to.  The one-day sale prices are some of the best mark downs in the retail industry.  Here’s some of the best from the One-Day-Sale which runs Fri. March 2 – Sat. March 3. Items marked with a * are “Web Busters.” In store prices may or may not match up. Selection on all items (especially shoes) in store can vary greatly.
.

Michael by Michael Kors Navy Suit – $179.99* ($495)
Great classic, awesome price.

That’s a hell of a good price.  Michael by Michael Kors suiting owns the middle ground.  It’s not uber-modern in cut, but it’s not as boxy as a Polo Ralph Lauren either.  The shoulders have some padding, but they don’t jut out over the sides.  Quality on these is above average for department store suiting, and it’s especially good for $180.  7-inch drop on these, which means you subtract 7 from your jacket size to get the size of the matched pants.  40 jackets get a 33 waist in the pant, which can be taken in by an inch or two by a tailor.  A web buster.

Stacy Adams Tamarack Suede Chukka – $59.99* ($80)
Right shape, right colors.

Stacy Adams isn’t exactly known for incredible quality.  But if you’re looking for a cheap, entry-level suede Chukka without a thick crepe sole, then here’s an option.  Careful with that constrast stitching on the brown.  It stands out quite a bit, so the grey might be the best of the four colors available.

Johnston & Murphy Headley Suede – $109.99* ($150)
Clean lines, and the sheepskin lining is great.

Italian suede uppers with an “alcohol rubbed finish.”  Sounds like most of my Friday nights (heyoooo.)  On sale direct through Johnston & Murphy for $99.99, but you’re on the hook for shipping and returns could be a hassle.  Ships free through Macys and returns are free in-store.  Also available in boot form through J&M.

Bar III Slim Fit – $26.99 ($49.50) | Alfani Red French Cuff – $24.75 ($49.50)
Not all white dress shirts are the same.

Both of these shirts are just a little different than a standard slim fit white dress shirt.  The Bar III is from the most modern leaning of the Macy’s house brands, and the smaller collar reflects that.  If you’re a smaller guy, or, you prefer slimmer ties that get swallowed up by big collars, you want something smaller to balance it all out.  The flip side is these would be dreadful for going tieless.  The Alfani RED, while a cotton/poly blend, it is as cheap as it gets for a french cuff.

M. Kors Linen Blazer – $99.99 ($250) | DKNY Slim Charcoal Check Blazer – $159.99 ($350)
Day... Night.

Both are new arrivals, both ship free and return free in store, and both… haven’t been seen in person yet.  Would love to though, since both look to have major potential.  Especially the DKNY with it’s subtle pattern.

Hugo Boss Cotton Stretch Trunk 3-Pack – $28.99* ($39)
Somewhere between briefs and boxer briefs

It’s not worth it to pay for shipping just these to your place, but if you’re considering a purchase that’s $20 – $30 short of the free shipping threshold, and you need some new underwear… well they’re an upgrade from tighty whiteys.

.

Hilfiger Solid Wool Slim Fit Dress Pants – $64.99 ($150)
DEATH TO POLY DRESS PANTS

For some of us, if we’re wearing wool pants… we’re wearing a suit.  And there’s not a lot of other times when we’d just go with wool pants on their own.  But that’s not the case for everyone, and wool pants are pricey.  Decently slim fit from Hilfiger on these, good price, three color options, and really well reviewed.

Lacoste Cotton Web Belts – $35.99 ($65)
Croc-ified spring worthy pant holder uppers.

Sometimes you can find similar belts at TJ Maxx that are cheaper, but aren’t quite the same.  Equipped with metal grommets to make sure your belt doesn’t slip throughout the day.  Great color selection.  Remember to get a belt a size up so you’ve got a little bit extra at the end.

Fossil Plaid Canvas Dopp Kit – $14.99 ($40)
Sherlock deerstalker approved.

Better looking than a plastic zip-loc bag.  Should keep all your toiletries from wandering around in your bag while on the road.  Nice looking pattern too.  $40 is way too much.  $15 is much more like it.

Nike Challenger Goggles – $8.99 ($13)
The goggles. Should do more than nothing.

I… why is Macy’s selling swimming goggles on their website?

The current Macy’s One Day Sale ends Saturday 3/3.
