The Sierra Trading Post Eliminator – Day 2

November 8, 2011 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Also, we take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

The Eliminator – Five from Sierra Trading Post

You can get more than outdoor gear at Sierra Trading Post.  A lot more.  And they’re proving that they’re a well kept secret right here.  These five items are all competing to survive.  Each day we’ll eliminate an item until only one remains.  Vote for the item that you’d LEAST like to own at the bottom of the page.  The item with the most votes gets ejected at the end of the day.  The item that remains at the end of this battle royal will be won by one of you.
.

Sebago Fairhaven Boots – $70.20icon ($135)

Eliminator Boots

From a well loved brand with weekend good looks to spare.  Moc toe with contrast stitching, a contrast sole, and equipped with a wet traction outsole.  Sebago knows their way around docks as well as city side walks.  Rugged but not so rugged that it looks like you just got back from a backpacking trip.  Use code ALSNOW1 to get this price.

John Varvatos Star USA Subtle Plaid Sport Coat – $223.97icon ($495)

The subtle and shadow plaid thing ain’t going away, and for good reason.  While everyone else is in boxy fit boring solids, it’s good to have not just well fitting jackets, but something with a bit of depth and character in your arsenal.  Varvatos is one of the best at combining tradition with modern looks.  A 60% wool / 38% poly / 2% lycra blend.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

Swiss Military Hanowa Chrono Pro – $181.97icon ($525)

It is a quartz, but made in Switzerland and looks incredible thanks to a white face, contrasting black sub-dials and black outer tach ring.  One of those watches that you’ll wear casually plenty, but can also use to dress down a suit and tie thanks to the sport influence.  41mm in diameter means it’s right in that not tiny but not gigantic wheelhouse.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

Marc New York Boston Lambskin Motocross Jacket – $237.97icon ($595)

A lot of leather jackets take a turn for the worse once they add too many zippers, hardware, epaulets, etc…  This isn’t one of those.  Just one review on STP but it’s pretty glowing.  Lambskin and retails for almost $600.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

ELIMINATED: Barrington Leather Burke & Willis 15″ Briefcase – $279.97icon ($700)

Seven hundred bucks retail, marked down to $400, and according to a five star review made from “harness leather.”  Contrast stitching throughout and a “low-luster” patina so you wont blind anyone on your way into work.  Has a cleaned up but still sort of rugged look to it.  Not some stiff hard edged attache by any means.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.
.

Here comes the tough part.  Pick the item that you’d LEAST like to win and vote below to have it eliminated.  One item gets cut every day.  The item that’s left at the end of the week will be up for grabs and you’ll be able to enter to win on Friday.  Make your case for what needs to go and/or what should stay in the comments.  Voting closes at 11:59pm ET.

Day 2: Which Sierra Trading Post item should be ELIMINATED?

  • The Sebago Boots (37%, 360 Votes)
  • The Varvatos Sport Coat (20%, 199 Votes)
  • The Swiss Military Hanowa Watch (16%, 160 Votes)
  • The Marc New York Leather Jacket (27%, 261 Votes)

Total Voters: 978

Loading ... Loading ...

NOTE: If a size specific item (the boots, sport coat, or lambskin leather jacket) makes it to the end, the winner will be given the option of a Sierra Trading Post gift card equal to the STP price of the item if their size is not available.

The watch annoys me more and more.  I doesn’t look ‘sporty’, it looks uncomfortably aspirational, the kind of thing I outgrew at 28.

hate the boots, love the sportscoat though. i dont like metal banded watches.

  5. BYC says

Looks like the briefcase was a little too murse-like for everyone, i’m not a huge fan of the sportscoat, but the watch is worse for me.

  6. Chris Wallwork says

    November 8, 2011 at 7:13 AM

I’m 33 and I still like the ‘Panda’ dial chronograph watches. I think they are classic, just look at Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona. I think it would probably look better on a leather strap, though.

I also love the leather jacket and it seems like a great deal. If I hadn’t just bought one I would definitely consider it.

Not a big fan of metal-banded watches either. I shouldn’t have to pay for looking good by experiencing the discomfort of having that thing pinch the hell out of my wrist.

  8. David says

    November 8, 2011 at 7:21 AM

Voted the boots this time. Because I might actually just go buy the boots.

    Sticking with the boots

  10. Ben Smith says

Not a fan of the contrast stitching on the boots.

  11. Josh says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:01 AM

I couldn’t agree more. I have an off-white or cream colored face timex now, with a stainless casing, and leather band and I love the look. With the right leather band, this watch could be really stellar looking, and it looks pretty good now.

  12. Logan says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:03 AM

Not a fan of the stitching on the boots or briefcase.  Not really sure why, but that white stitching on black always looks cheap and a bit trashy to me.

  13. Adam says

Voted the jacket. My moto jacket is armored.

  15. Nicholas Kasarda says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:34 AM

I agree with you, if your buying a watch, this one will only show others how little you know about the watch your wearing. Not class. Not to mention this is a quartz movement….

  16. Anthony D. Thompson says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:42 AM

    The boots.  Overkill.

  17. Anonymous says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:43 AM

I love the jacket and the watch, but the coat and boots just don’t appeal to me.

  18. Joe says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:45 AM

Let’s not confuse “make your case for what needs to go and/or what should stay” with “what object which is part of a giveaway that no one is being forced to participate in ‘annoys’ your personal sense of style?”  Y’know?

  19. Joe says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:47 AM

Let’s reduce the level of snobbery and increase the level of ” ‘re ” please.

  20. Guata1983 says

    the watch

  21. Kevin U says

    November 8, 2011 at 8:55 AM

i’d have to do away with the watch, not particularly a fan of quartz movement

  22. Patrick H. says

Not huge on leather jackets. Definitely love the sport coat the most

  23. Aaron says

Well put, Joe.  ” ‘re ” the man!

  24. BenR says

    November 8, 2011 at 9:39 AM

That’s what leather straps are for. 🙂

  25. BenR says

    November 8, 2011 at 9:46 AM

I voted for the boots (again) because everything else is more of a splurge to me – I can afford the boots on my own, but this other stuff is more of a stretch.

All you folks getting a bit snobby about the watch really ought to chill… I generally prefer sleeker, dressier watches myself, but a nice sporty watch is hardly a bad one to have in the mix of things. This one looks rock solid and as someone else mentioned, the panda dial is a classic one. There’s nothing wrong with quartz, either… you can use it to adjust the time on your less accurate mechanical watch(es). 😉

  26. Butch_Z says

    November 8, 2011 at 10:05 AM

ZZTop Eliminator! Surprised the boots survived yesterday’s voting. The bag wasn’t bad, it would just have looked much better in brown than in black. Day #2 of voting to eliminate the hideous mocassin boots.

  31. Dave says

    November 8, 2011 at 12:18 PM

Not diggin’ the moto jacket. The watch and the boots are two favorite pieces, actually.

  32. Csmith1521 says

    November 8, 2011 at 12:39 PM

Not feeling the jacket like others said. Boots should be saved!

  33. Josh says

    November 8, 2011 at 12:44 PM

FYI – I think this is an awesome promotion, never seen one handled this way before.
I personally am just voting in opposite order of how much I’d like to win one of the items.
Leather Jacket > Watch > Boots > Briefcase > Sportcoat.

  34. Anonymous says

    November 8, 2011 at 1:52 PM

I know that voting isn’t officially over but let me just say

    * RIP Boots *

We hardly knew ye’. I heard people call you moccasins and boats shoes. I don’t get it. I thought you were kinda spiffy but you didn’t fit me so goodbye.

  35. Mike N says

    November 8, 2011 at 1:53 PM

I want to like the sport coat….. I just don’t.

  36. Jim Gooch says

    November 8, 2011 at 2:22 PM

Yep.  A moto-style anything should be purposeful beyond style, IMO.

  37. BenR says

    November 8, 2011 at 2:37 PM

The only thing I don’t like about it is the fact that it looks like a suit jacket in need of pants. Perhaps it looks less suit-y in person.

  38. Banzailang says

    November 8, 2011 at 3:44 PM

Not loving the rise of the material around the stitching of those boots. The stitching itself isn’t winning my favor either…

  39. Frank says

    November 8, 2011 at 4:18 PM

Sportcoat, there’s too much poly in you for your price tag… even if your by John Varvatos (king of marking up perfectly good JPs and all-stars to exhorbitantly high prices).  Yet your saved this round because I hate leather jackets more… and it seems that everyone else hats perfectly good sebago boots… 🙁

  40. Alex Shepherd says

    November 8, 2011 at 4:31 PM

    Ditch the leather jacket!

  41. Anonymous says

    November 8, 2011 at 4:33 PM

I only lose about 2 minutes a week on my automatic watch. I also don’t think people are snobbish, I just think it is a matter of personal taste. I, for one, hates quartz watches and would not want to win one, therefore, I vote against it. Just like people have been finding fault against the boots. But in life, it is what it is.

  42. Anonymous says

    November 8, 2011 at 4:34 PM

I know how you feel Frank. Even though those boots have been on my radar for about a year now, it would be nice to try and win them, so I can free up a couple of bucks for a pair of 8″ Bean Boots..lol

  43. Anonymous says

    November 8, 2011 at 5:32 PM

I can already tell the watch is going to win…and that is sad because I want that sport coat, just not $224 want it, and definitely not $495 want it.  If it was $150 I’d be sorely tempted, even though chances are I wouldn’t like how it looked on me and it’d get returned.

  44. adasjas says

    November 8, 2011 at 5:35 PM

    Once again, the Varvatos sportscoat!

  45. Gusto says

    November 8, 2011 at 7:43 PM

Again. Save the Boots! I agree with most about the sport coat. It’s lacking a pairing pants. I also think the plaid pattern doesn’t do anything for the coat. I’ll be the King of the Weekend with those boots. 😀

  46. David Porter says

    November 8, 2011 at 7:49 PM

I think those boots are hideous, I always have.

  47. Frank says

    November 8, 2011 at 7:58 PM

Already got my bean boots lol, but 70 bucks could put a dent in the price i’d pay for the perfect chambray shirt.

  48. Kenn says

    November 8, 2011 at 11:12 PM

I actually like the leather jacket. But, then the JV jacket and watch are pretty rocking too…

  49. Anonymous says

    November 8, 2011 at 11:36 PM

I should’ve voted the watch out initially. I prefer a simpler watch.

  50. John Gulich says
