Macy’s F&F
: Use code, wait for it, MACYSFF for an extra 25% off
Code is good through 12/5. There are a few exclusions but they’re few and far between.
This thing just recently launched, and so far Macy’s is actually keeping the MACYSFF extra 25% off code quiet. That’s unusual for them. It’s also unusual to beat the prices on one of their One Day Sales, but there are plenty of examples here which do just that. Almost all of these picks are already on sale, so the extra 25% off takes them lower than your average O.D.S. Sale is going on in-store, but you’ll need a savings pass (warning, pdf)
.
Levi’s 527 Boot Cut
& Levi’s 514 Slim Straight – $35.99
($54.00)

With cotton prices through the roof, $36 for a pair of Levi’s in one of their best, dark blue washes (tumbled rigid) is more than fair. In terms of fit, these two sit just to the left and right of 501s. 527s do have a boot cut to them and they have a little more room. The 514 slim straights are noticeably slimmer than a 501, but not quite skinny.
Ralph Lauren V-Neck & Button Mock Neck Sweaters – $52.49 ($98)

Over fifty bucks for a sweater isn’t cheap by any means, but with the extra 25% discount they drop to just about half off. The v-neck is far from a traditional V and leans heavily casual. The description says it has elbow patches too. The Button Mock is a better looking take on those zip mock necks you see everywhere.
Ralph Lauren Brawley Chukka – $55.49 ($98)

Certainly not everyone’s taste, but for fifty-five bucks? You could do a lot worse for a shoe that looks made to wear while watching football, working around the house, or running errands on the weekend.
Breil Milano 939 Chronograph – $292.50 ($650)

Purists will probably hate this thing, and the styling isn’t for everyone either. It is a Swiss Quartz and comes from a brand that doesn’t specialize in just watches. Little big for most wrists at 44mm. More here.
Tommy Hilfiger Fields Cap Toe Boot – $81.75 ($125)

Like the Polo from up above, a little ugly (or a lot ugly to some) but has potential for others. Right around $80, has that contrast sole, and the cap toe upper is an interesting and almost weird change of pace.
DKNY Slim Fit Wool/Cashmere Overcoat – $187.49 ($525)

The original retail price seems inflated, and no word as to how much cashmere is in the mix, but it sure looks like it hits the still above the knee / mid-thigh sweet spot. Also claims to be a trim fit.
Bar III Wool/Cotton Heathered Blazer – $104.99 ($325)

If memory serves, a Bar III blazer has yet to dip this low. And thankfully, it’s not a few dollars lower, since the free shipping threshold is $99. So nice work there. Has potential, but again, this brand hasn’t trickled down to all the brick and mortars so fit is unknown, other than a general description saying the entire brand fits modern and slim.
Hilfiger Collin Fair Isle – $52.49 ($98)

One of the few fair isle sweaters that those of us non fair-aisle fans might actually wear. Wool/Nylon blend. One of Hilfiger’s newer additions but no word on fit. Could be way too big.
Calvin Klein BODY Charcoal Slim Fit Suit – $224.99 ($650)

Maybe they’ve put the CK “Body” line on clearance? Back during the October One Day Sale it dropped to under $270 for the first time in a long time. But this is down to Hilfiger and Alfani RED prices.
Timberland City Escape Moc – $74.25 ($110)

What is this, the island of misfit boots? All slightly ugly, a little weird, but still somewhat awesome in their own ways (depending on your point of view.) This one seems to get it done with good looking leather, a rounded off moc toe with contrast stitching, and blue laces. Part of Timberland’s Earthkeepers series.
Hilfiger Slim Fit Ithaca Oxford – $32.25 ($65.00)

Some guys swear by these shirts, while others are left disappointed. Fabric has a little bit of texture, and some claim they have a true slim fit. Much slimmer than what we’re all used to with most Hilfiger stuff.
ESQ by Movado 7301392 – $221.25 ($295)

A new arrival so this one won’t be doubled up on discounts. Over $200 so you’d have to really love the looks. The brown strap version is going for $55 more. Case diameter is reportedly 42.6mm, so it’s a bit larger. Only if it were on sale already. Will certainly keep an eye out for that to happen.
The extra 25% off Macy’s Friends and Family code MACYSFF expires 12/5. In-store pass can be found here.
Those RL chukka’s are pretty cool. Not sure if I’ll pull the trigger, but I like ’em.
Anyone have any experience with those CK suits? I actually don’t have a basic charcoal and have been considering a CK or Lauren. I know if Joe posted the suit here then it can’t be bad but I’d like to hear other’s thoughts. Thanks.
Oh, I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying they can’t be bad. I honestly wish I had more experience with them. I saw once once but it was awhile ago. Slipped the jacket on but didn’t head into the fitting room. I was impressed with the fabric and the off the rack fit, but I haven’t seen them in store in a good long while… What’s your height/weight?

Update: They’re almost gone. Down to 44L and up on the web. Drat.

Any other recommendations for suits along that price range aside from the Alfani Reds? Really wanted to pick up the CK Body slim fit.
The Tim’s are growing on me…
Watch is HIDEOUS! Sorry Joe, love your blog, but had to say something.
The Breil? Yeah, it’s got a lot of flash 🙂 Not for everyone (and hell, probably not for me…)
The J. Crew Factory Thompson is amazing if you can get it at 30% off. But they’re awfully short on sizes right now. Hilfiger Trim Fits are good, but they’re much stronger in the shoulders. When do you need it by? Might be worth waiting until the Nordstrom half yearly sale for men right around Christmas. They mark down a lot of their suits, and their house brands like Calibrate might dip to that level. Maybe…
The V-neck can be found on Lord & Taylor website for 59.99. Adding the current 25% off code (or any of the coming code) should make it cheaper than Macys.
Got a three-piece Tommy Hilfiger slim fit suit for less than $290…great sale! Thanks so much for the heads up!
Got the brown strap ESQ watch today. Been eyeing that one since it came out. Most expensive watch I’ve ever bought. And it’s all your fault, Dappered (and Esquire “watch porn”).
That’s a beautiful watch. Enjoy!!
Cheers,
Ben
Nice finds, Joe. I like that V-neck sweater. It’s different. And bonus, it doesn’t have the polo logo on the chest (which I’m OK with on an actual polo t or shirt, just not on a sweater or jacket.)
Button stance on that jacket is ridonkulously low… stay away if you’re six-foot something, otherwise your torso will be skewed to epically long proportions. It’s meant to make short people look tall.
Sorry by ‘that jacket’ I meant the JCrew Factory Thompson…
I picked up a pretty sweet Kenneth Cole Shawl Collar Cardigan in black today =)
Go for suitsupply! They’re amazing.
Okay, not along that price range though…
Well that’s a bit of an exaggeration. It’s lower, but it’s not wildly low: https://dappered.com/2011/08/in-person-the-j-crew-factory-suit/ If you’re average height, meaning, 5’9″-5’10” it looks pretty damn good. Especially for the price. And I seriously doubt the designers set out to create a jacket that makes “short people look tall.” It’s J. Crew’s style right now. The oft mentioned Shannon Sharpe, who’s anything but short, wears jackets with a similar button stance.
So for someone who IS 6-foot-something (6’4″), where do I find a slim cut NAVY suit for that price range? I’ve already got a charcoal, but I have residency interviews and need more than one suit.
