Modasuite is a hybrid. They’re one of these members only type sites, appear to sometimes curate products from other brands, offer made to measure for a semi-reasonable cost, and decent discounts that happen to be timed. They’re Gilt but they’re not Gilt. They’re Indochino but they’re not Indochino. They’re Bonobos… and you get the idea.
Or not. Because honestly, it’s confusing. Here’s the dirty version of how it works:
For the record, here were my reactions moving from left to right, top row first: 1. Nah 2. Nope. 3. No. 4. Yes, but L.L. Bean has them cheaper. 5. Nice looking suit, but still, no thanks. 6. The sportcoat is tempting but the button stance might be a little high. Plus, this is more up my alley. 7. Pass 8. Aren’t those the J. Shoes Mojave
Hm… Don’t know about you guys, but I’m squinting. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to find where the deal is here.
Regular price on many of their items will seem slightly inflated to many of us. For example, a windowpane dress shirt will be $56 if it’s “in your closet,” yet it’s regularly $75 if these magical stylist elves haven’t picked that particular shirt for you this time around. Tack on a $25 made to measure charge and you’re pushing $100. Pretty sure we all know of one or two companies that can do better than that.
.
Yes, Junglecents. The same folks that brought you a Bonobos deal that many took advantage of. Their current offer is a spend $40 get $100 worth of credit at Modasuite. Here’s two potential ways for you to to spend the deal if you do in fact decide to jump on it:
.
The pocket square is reminiscent of Ratio’s Ogden plaid. Only instead of orange you get beige. The shirt looks an awful lot like the all but sold out Calibrate Trim Fit dress shirt which has plenty of uses. Unlike the Calibrate this one doesn’t come with neck and sleeve measurements. Made to measure is an extra $25 so skip that.
.
The scarf is a great way to bring some color to a dark and classic coat this winter. The tie is cotton and a slim 2.5″ at it’s widest point. That’s too slim for a lot of you guys, but a fine width for others.
.
Wait, $55? Indeed. There’a a wild $15 flat shipping fee for all U.S. and Canadian orders. Modasuite is based in Montreal. So finally us Yanks here in the states get to feel a little of the shipping pain our friends North of the Border have to deal with. $55 looks and feels much different than $40 (standard ATM trip anyone?) but for a shirt and pocket square, it might be worth it to some of you. Also, those prices assume these items aren’t in your closet after signing up. If they are they’ll actually cost less. And if you’re none too thrilled with what ends up in your closet after the quiz, you can email Modasuite’s customer service team for some new items.
With the $40 for $100 jungelcents offer Modasuite can be a bargain. But these deals are seen by many as a way for a retailer to get their foot in your door. Then it’s up to them to convince you they’re worth your time even without a deal. When it comes to that scenario, Modasuite looks like it has some work to do.
