The Orient Watch Company has a dedicated following for good reason. They’re the only watchmaker whose foundation is a wide range of incredible looking affordable automatics, & now they’ve partnered up with us to give away a different watch for each of the next 12 months. Every month we’ll review and give away a different featured watch, plus you’ll also get a new promo code good for 50% off ANY watch at OrientWatchUSA.com for that month.
UPDATE: As of late February 2012, Orient has decided to no longer honor codes that delivered 50% off. Those codes are now worth 30% off. This is a new regulation that affects all of their promotional agreements.
This isn’t a Mako. Unlike Orient’s most well known dive watch, the Orient Hammerhead leans heavily to the sport side thanks to that beefier than normal rotating bezel. Also unlike the Mako, the Hammerhead is rated water resistant to 100m, while the Mako is 200m. A detail that won’t impact performance for 99.9% of us.
The links have that perfect ratio of outer to inner width that makes it look more like a tool (albeit a great looking one) and less like a flashy piece of jewelery. Those same links are also brushed stainless, not chromed up, which is perfect for those of us who prefer little or no shine on our wrists. The crystal is mineral and not the more scratch resistant/expensive sapphire.
Dive watch design is a little like automobile design. Some stainless steel band dive watches look like sports cars. The Hammerhead is a 4×4. A sharp, athletic looking 4×4 no doubt, but that bezel means it’ll be better paired with jeans than with a boardroom ready suit.
Here’s how to win the Hammerhead seen here: Send an email to contests@dappered.com with the subject: Orient August. One entry per person. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm ET on 8/2/11
