This is a tough one. Many of us always have an eye out for inexpensive, barely structured, casual cotton blazers. And this “medium indigo” version from Lands’ End Canvas hits that trifecta easily. It’s cheap (because it doesn’t appear to be selling?), it has no shoulder pads, and it’s half lined.
The fit is surprisingly good off the rack and comes in decently close at the sides. Could use some extra tailoring if you’re real slim, but if you have some width to your torso, it’s breezy without being bulky.
.
Some of reviews complain about the sleeves running extra long, but they only seem slightly long on my average length arms. Functional button holes could make alterations a pain, but if there was ever a blazer to unbutton at the cuff and flip back? This is it. Wear it around for a few hours and you’ll notice how comfortable and light it feels.
But maybe it’s the color. Or the color combined with the visible stitching at the patch pockets. Whatever it is, it leans closer to a pair of mom jeans than the cool blue this-is-not-denim sold out chambray LEC Pocket square. The blazer is light enough in shade that if you pair it with jeans, you best make sure they’re inky dark blue. Midnight blue. Almost black blue. Otherwise, you’ll get that Denim Dan look going on.
It’s quite comfortable in the heat and looks decent with light chinos. Just $40 too. But would you wear it?

I just don’t know. I mean I wear chambray, but there’s something about that. Maybe it’s the shade.
I can see myself wearing this.
I’ve heard that the shade of things tends to not transfer well in photographs. Now I just CAN’T BELIEVE ANYTHING I SEE!!
I bet all those women on the Internet are ugly, too, aren’t they? Ugly bags, ugly chambray, MY DREAMS HAVE DIED!
Also, this looks too light blue for me. I picked up a deep blue indigo one on sale at club Monaco this past weekend, and it’s a win.
I like it, if the color is true. It would go well with my natural colored Old Navy linen pants.
I won this blazer during the LEC Twitter event a few weeks ago (thanks to the heads-up from Dappered!) and it is nice, though, as mentioned, the color and texture certainly makes pairing it with the rest of the wardrobe slightly difficult. Its best with a solid shirt as you’ve got pictured. That said, at 6’2″ and a usual 40L, I grabbed the Medium and it fits true over the shoulders and through the chest. The sleeves are just barely long enough for someone as tall as me. I will need to take it to the tailor, as there is a lot of extra space in the waist around the back. For $40 (or zero, in my case) its hard to argue with if I can get 2 or 3 good wearings before summer’s end.
I like it, i do think the buttons are tacky though…i would def switch those out…
You’re right, it does have a bit of a mom-jean quality to it. I think the color is simultaneously too light and too bright. If it were a darker shade or more subdued/less saturated, it would be much better.
As is, it’s just not very neutral. It would be a great color for a shirt, but for a jacket? It’s a bit much.
Not too hard to match. Just go with dark dark blue jeans or white chinos.
No, because that jacket is way too short.
No it’s not. End of the jacket comes to rest perfectly in the crease of my fingers when I do the whole: leave your arms relaxed at your sides and curl your fingers up trick. Hands are on my hips in the pic so the shoulders go up.
Just say no to the Canadian tuxedo
I really, really like this jacket. I’m just waiting for it to hit the clearance rack. But at this point, for $40, I’ll probably get it anyways even if it’s not marked down further before I go off to college in August.
. . . but it looks like it doesn’t completely cover the butt. Personally, I think that’s a bs rule for blazers and sportcoats, but a lot of people on here seem to swear by that rule.
Sure some people like their blazers/jackets longer or more traditional. Honestly, when I tried it on, it seemed really quite proportional and not too short in the least. But I’m not against slightly (not totally cropped) shorter jackets. So your rule is it has to completely cover your rear?
No, no. I’m with you! I was surprised by how many only guides and fora I found in which people maintained as gospel that you have to have total butt coverage, and that that is the only real rule for length, so I was just trying to explain the original comment. I checked my closet and saw that all my “good” blazers and sport coats violate that rule, and the ones I think look droopy and terrible all pass the test. So I just ignore that rule. As long as my butt doesn’t seem like it’s totally exposed, I don’t care whether every last bit of it is covered. I also think you can go shorter with shorts and jeans, followed by casual trousers, followed finally by suits where a little more length may be required (unless you are super fashion forward, which I am not).
Misunderstood, now understood. Gotcha 🙂 Thanks for the clarification.
I’m usually a 36 short. Any idea if the small will be small enough for me?
I don’t think it will. I’m between a 38-40R and the Medium was good for me. But I don’t think the small will be small enough on you?
No. And, then again, no.
Chambray and denim are really great for work shirts and dungarees, and any time they stray from those articles, it’s risky at best. To my eyes, it looks like a novelty, like a denim tux.
Can this be dyed?
Now selling for $21.99 with M & L left to go! They even feature the tagline “As seen on dappered.com”!
Is the medium a 40R? Thanks.
