Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – Next Season Picks

Pre Season Savings – The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Sales almost always look into the past.  They’re a way to move out old merchandise that’s taking up the shelves which the new stuff should be sitting on.  That’s not the case with the just launched Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  A huge selection of NEW items have been marked down, by a good sized chunk, in anticipation of autumn.

Remember that Nordstrom isn’t Kohl’s, so prices can get real high real quick even with the markdowns.  This is also, by far, the best looking sale we’ve seen in awhile.  Eye and closet candy are everywhere.  So know your budget and remember that there’s no harm in sticking to just looking.

To Boot New York “Aaron” Medallion Cap Toe Oxford – $199.90 ($295)
This.

Holy goodness that’s a shoe.  Perforated details but not a wingtip.  Medallion on the tapered and slim cap toe.  True oxford with closed lacing and made in Italy.  Unique gripping rubber buttons on the underside that in person are barely noticeable.  Full in-person review coming next week.  Also available in black.

Calibrate Trim Fit Wool Blend Blazer – $149.90 ($225)
One of the many reasons to look forward to fall.

Old Navy made a micro herringbone blazer like this one a few years back.  You can wear it almost anywhere with just about anything come fall and winter.  Calibrate is a Nordstrom house brand and the quality should be much better than an alternative from Old Navy.  Also available in tall sizes.

Magnanni Rasso Wingtip – $199.90 ($295.00)
Slightly attractive.

Bologna construction, which means it’ll have trim lines and plenty of flexibility.  Should (should) feel like a second skin on your foot.  Incredible looking toe shape and wingtip stitching.  A pair of shoes that you’ll want to wear everywhere with everything.  And probably will.

Ted Baker Bersary Brief – $109.90 ($165)
Not actual leather. The cows thank you.

Here’s the deal with Ted Baker stuff.  It’ll usually excel in the looks department.  But when it comes to the materials?  It’s anyone’s guess.  This case is faux-leather.  And the price reflects that.  Good if you’re the vegan type, maybe not so good if you’re the traditional “I prefer my leather to be actual leather” type.

BOSS Grey Stripe Wool Suit – $499.00 ($795)
Sharp. And then some.

Made in Germany with a fall/winter shade of grey and stripes that are just a touch lighter.  Micro patterns and tonal stripes can add serious depth to a suit that otherwise might blend in.  Flat front pants and a not too skinny not too fat notch lapel.  An investment, but maybe worthwhile if you’re the suited type.

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Dress shirt – $42.90 ($65.00)
As good as an under $50 shirt gets.

Hot damn it’s back.  Some of us were starting to get worried.  One of the best shirts for the price available.  Trim(mer) fit than most, still might need some tailoring, finish is incredible.  Wrinkle resistant too.

Victorinox Maverick Rubber – $264 ($395) | Chrono Leather – $300 ($450)
Knives are legendary. Watches are incredible.

Nordstrom is one of the few Victorinox authorized online retailers, so rest easy and know these are the real deal.  Rubber strap watches can be dressed up more than most would think.  Especially when they look like that.

Jack Spade Nylon Canvas Briefcase – $196.90 ($295)
Stare all you want.

Well executed contrast is the cleavage of the style world.  It’s hard to keep your eyes off it.  The nylon woven like canvas will be incredibly durable, and those light leather handles are dead square perfect.  Pricey even on sale.

Thomas Pink Silk Tie – $46.50 ($70)
Always nice to see a knot larger than a pea.

Razor thin skinny ties have finally fallen out of favor.  Simple patterned ties that can tie a substantial (but not ESPN commentator sized) knot are your best bet.  Made in Italy and the pink stripes stand out just enough.

Burberry Stripe Leather Strap Watch – $329.90 ($495)
Sapphire crystal, water/drool resistant.

There’s more than a few reasons to not even consider this watch.  The over $300 price tag.  It’s Swiss, but it’s still quartz.  The fact that Burberry carries the price load and like many high end brand names, they have someone else make their watches for them.  But then you look at it and think… well…

Asics Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 – $49.90 ($79.95)
Could turn into a weekend favorite

Slimmer with a lower profile when compared to a New Balance retro sneaker, the Asics Onitsuka Tiger is one of the few more athletic looking sneakers that doesn’t get obnoxious.  Great color combination (as well as price) on these.

Marc New York “Retro” Waxed Twill Brief – $116.90 ($175)
A cheap alternative to Jack Spade?

Leather trimmed flap over brief with the gotta have it top grab handle.  Good price on a unique case and the logo patch on the front isn’t too intrusive.

Calibrate Trim Fit Medium Gingham & Blue Stripe Dress Shirts – $45.90 ($69.50)
Decent pick for the slim fellas.

From the Nordstrom house brand that skews a little bit younger.  Their trim fits fit more like a 1MX and are noticeably closer at the sides than the plain ol’ Nordstrom trim fit shirts.  Feel free to try that bold check with a grey suit.  It’ll give your torso some serious (and good) pop.  Also available in white.

Allen Edmonds Strand – $199.90 ($295)
One of AE's best.

Nordstrom has quickly become the place to get the best deal on new Allen Edmonds shoes.  The Strand is highly recommended by many, and if you want to see how they’d look with a medium to light grey suit?  Skip on over to Primer and get a look for yourself.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Egyptian cotton dress shirt – $52.90 ($79.50)
Your white shirt alternative

A step up on the price scale but made from better quality Egyptian cotton.  Comes in the perfect shade of blue.  Also available in tall sizes.

Clarks Original Desert Boot – $64.90 ($99.95)
The casual can't miss.

The most classic desert boot in its most classic color.  Marked down about as far as it gets (they’ve been found for under $60 before, but it’s not too common.)

Emporio Armani Large Chronograph – $229.90 ($345)
The antithesis of the Timex easy reader.

Mean lookin’ buggar ain’t it.  Armani can sometimes struggle when it comes to their watches and design.  This one is far, far from subtle, but for the larger watch lovers (it’s 45mm), it’s pretty eye catching.

Hugo Boss Pebble Leather Brief – $263.90 ($395)
Bucking the glass smooth leather look.

Over $250 is probably asking a little much, but this case excels at keeping it simple and then adding just one extra detail.  That detail would be the pebbled leather.  Nice work Hugo Boss.

Hugo Boss Card case – $35.90 ($55.00)
A cheap taste of the above case.

Meanwhile, the slightly matching card case dips to a real affordable $36.  Does unfortunately have a plastic covered ID window on the flip side.

1901 Argyle Socks – $5.90 ($9.50)
Wear them everywhere.

Remember that free shipping kicks in at (a whopping) $200 at Nordstrom.  So if you’re close, maybe buy a couple pairs of these to push you over the top.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale prices are set to expire on Monday August 1st…
