Use Code BRONGAP35 for 35% off Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy
Online only, expires 7/12, as always, free shipping kicks in at $50.
There’s two drawbacks on this one. It’s an online “select customer” sale (so some might see, say, a 30% or 25% savings), and it appears that GAP Inc. is running this right before they bring the lion-share of their fall clothes online. There just isn’t a lot to pick from right now.
That said, there’s still some flexibility because you can cross pollinate between the brands. One shopping cart, one $50 (pre-code) free shipping threshold, and this time the code works on all three brands.
Banana Republic Cotton/Silk Tie – $22.74
(reg. $59.50)

Cotton/Silk or Wool/Silk blend ties give you just enough texture to be interesting, and knock down that all silk metallic shine that can look a little too clean. Good for summer suits now and keep on wearing it well into the fall (even with jeans.) Far from too skinny with a 3″ maximum width. Already on sale.
GAP Contrast Collar Shirt – $27.29
($49.95)

Shirts with collars that pop due to contrast, not because they’re standing up on end. Can’t recall if they have slots for collar stays. Could always make some with a steady hand and a razor blade. Already on sale.
Old Navy Tri-Blend Jersey Polo – $6.50 (reg. $19.50)

The key with these is to size down. If you do that, they’re about as close to the Mossimo Athletic Fit polos as it gets. Also already on sale, and a good pick if you need something to get you to free shipping.
The Investment? Banana Republic Classic Belted Trench – $110.18
($225)

It’s a recent arrival online but hasn’t shown up in many stores. Bad news is there’s no reviews and while the 100% poly fabric will keep the rain out, it’s an unknown as to how it looks/feels in person. Good news is that it’s half off, ships free, and there are free returns in store if it doesn’t work out.
The 35% off Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy code BRONGAP35 expires Tuesday 7/12. Remember, only $50 is needed to get free shipping, and that’s pre-code, so after the code your order ships free this time at $32.50.
“Can’t recall if they have slots for collar stays. Could always make some with a steady hand and a razor blade.”
Not sure if you’re being facetious but that actually reminds me of a question I’ve been meaning to ask the Dappered community – can a tailor add collar stay slots if a shirt doesn’t have one? I’ve been toying with the idea for about a month.
Lately i have a major hardon for textured solid gray ties! Dunno if it is style evolution, or just the result of exposure to good fashion photographs. In any case, this is the third grey tie I purchased in two weeks, and i think it’ll look awesome with navy suit/blazer.
Thanks for the post. I have been waiting for a sale like this to grab a pair of Clark’s Desert Boots. They only have the beeswax and taupe suede, but I can’t make up my mind on which color. What would you guys suggest?
Also, what is BR return policy on sale items?
I’d say beeswax hands down… I have the sand suedes and a pair of beeswax bushacres. Two best colors (and most versatile) you can get if you ask me.
It can be done unless its final sale. I’m sure you’ll have no problem if you need to return the db’s… remember they run big so you may want to size down a half or whole size.
thats a tough one, i lean on one end its possible, and then on the other end its risky. The shirt has to be able to support stays. For example, a casual sport shirt sans stay and wrinkled collar would possibly look bad with stays due to the weak collar. I mean you could always starch it to death, but that messes up the fabric…per another example, if you have a cheap shirt say a beverly hills polo club shirt, and there were no stays but the collar was solid, you might want to add the stays but i would think it would cost about the price of that RL Polo shirt to have altered including the cost of the shirt…long story short, i would say no
what frank said. that beeswax is a win, and when it gets scuffed up it gets some great tonal browns in it.
Damn. Originally wanted that trench but bought the Tommy Hilfiger jacket posted a few months back for $60.
And that grey tie is out of stock…. @#**@%!^(
