Bonobos Great Scott Cotton/Linen Blazer – $268
($218 for first timers
)
Blackwatch is not Seersucker. It’s more associated with dark clouds, sleet, and snow. Not summer days in the 80s and 90s. But Bonobos has softened the shoulders and switched out the wool for a cotton-linen blend (or perhaps just cotton? It says “Scottish Tartan Cotton Linen Blazer” in one area, then 100% cotton in another.)
You could potentially make it more of a warm weather look with some close to white pants. If it has that somewhat rough linen-blend texture? Then that’s certainly a plus for the warmer seasons. Maybe jeans and sockless just like the model is sportin’ for a cool summer evening… maybe.
$268 is certainly expensive (it is Bonobos after all) and even a reduced $218 is pricey. So cost aside, would you choose to wear it at this time of year? Or would it stay in your closet till at least September?

I’d definitely rock this blazer.
Love the pattern, but would prefer a lower button stance. I’m on the fence, but would probably wear.
The button stance is te-ri-ble. Otherwise decent.
I love Blachwatch coats. With the denim, loafers and green tie? For sure. I must admit that I am prone to obnoxious preppieness once in a while…but I’m a big frickin Mick.
Can anyone comment on the fit of Bonobos jackets? For reference, I’m a perfect fit in a Banana Republic tailored 36R, the INC unstructured small, and an H&M 38R.
The jacket page notes that it has “slightly enlarged armholes,” whatever that means. That’s a bit unnerving, to say the least.
Its free return shipping, just take a shot at sizing.
Not a fan of the high button stance or green tie, but I think its workable.
I picked up a wool black watch blazer on Ebay a couple months back. For the most part it’s been relegated to the closet during the last couple months, especially with the nice weather we’ve been having in SoCal (due to the wool as much as the pattern.) I have brought it out a couple times when I head out during the evening and it’s always garnered plenty of compliments.
It’s been said already, but it buttons way too high. I’m not an NBA player, so I’ll have to skip this one.
I currently live in the middle of Podunk, Nowhere, with no shippable address. Which is a wonderful summer-time arrangement in most respects but puts me at a bit of an arms-length distance from many aspects of civilization, including online shopping. I’m having my mail and packages sent to nearby family, who then deliver to me on occasional weekend visits. So, while shipping may be “free,” let’s just say there is an unspoken charge against my “family annoyance” credit. Plus the extra time for transit.
In short, I’m reticent to put down $200+ for an online purchase that isn’t a slam dunk (for now, anyway). 🙂
I like the idea of this jacket. If this were a kilt, I’d green light it for summer time. And same criticism as above – it has the button stance of a three button.
Looks ridiculous. And ridiculous is ridiculous at any price.
They fit pretty true to me. I’ve got a couple here waiting on a review (not the blackwatch) and the 40s fit while the 38 doesn’t. Meanwhile, a 38 in the tailored BR doesn’t fit, but a 40 blazer I just picked up in the tailored BR fit required more tailoring. I’d say you’re a 36R in the Bonobos jackets. Free shipping both ways though, so no harm (except for time spent returning) if you get two sizes in anything from Bonobos. They make you pay for their stuff, that’s for sure, but the customer service/shipping is bar none top notch.
Does the button stance suck, or is the model just wearing a jacket that’s too small for him? Look at where the jacket stops vs. where his hands are. It looks about 3 or 4 inches too short, no?
You may have a point there.
Definately would wear it.
I just ordered one in my size, received free one day shipping due to a Father’s Day promotion and $50 off my order using a code available through couponchief.com. The regular price has already been reduced to $198.00 so I pulled it off for $148.00! Not bad at all! I made sure to cite Dappered.com as my reference. Thanks for the info!
