Father’s are notoriously difficult to buy for. When I was 12, I asked my Dad what he wanted for Father’s day. His honest answer was: “I could use some more rope for tying the canoe down on top of the mini van.” …Right. Father’s Day is Sunday June 19th. Expect a different gift idea for Dad each day this week.
Most Dads love beer. Some of us during our youth might have even driven our fathers to drink. Now’s an opportunity to provide him with a six pack of buybacks that should break his rut of High Life tall boys.
Find a specialty store that allows you to make your own sixer. Cost Plus is great for this, and most cities have at least one or two small grocers or home-brew stores that carry a wide selection of buy by the bottle micro-brews.
Half of the sixer should be variations on the type of beer your Dad normally drinks. Is he a pislner guy? Does he stick to ales? IPA? Stouts? The other half should be wild cards. Ask the employees for suggestions. Is there a porter that tastes like liquid beef jerky? Good. Buy it. That’s payback for when your father unfairly grounded you in the 6th grade.
It’s relatively cheap, easy to assemble, and what beer lover doesn’t enjoy a random six pack of singles available to sample on weeknights?
Since it’s getting warm out, you might want to refresh yourself on our favorite dark beers for summertime.
Also, if your Dad (or you) is drinking beer from a water glass? It’s time for an upgrade…
