The Official Under $100 Watch of Summer

The Orient Chief Automatic – $87.50 with code EXECUTIVE50 (reg. $175.00)

Credit to Shawn for the styletip on the coupon code

Pardon the “watch of summer” hyperbole.  Pretty sure Mother Nature hasn’t handed over her rights to seasonal naming rights just yet, but she can’t be that upset with the Orient Chief Automatic.

The dial is light and sports a symmetrical thatch checkerboard texture.  The rounded off numbers (a font Orient favors) is just a tick down on the formality scale which is right in line with summer.  The light tan band is also right for warmer weather, but that’s easily swapped out for a fabric strap or a dark brown band.  A black band would really dress it up nicely too.  The day window is a terrific anchor, and the Orient logo is one of the best out there.

And it’s an automatic.

Dial shows up as more of a gray on some sites, but it looks to lean more white.  Also available with a black dial.  Code EXECUTIVE50 gets you 50% as well as free regular ground shipping.

Looks incredible. Just got one and look forward to using on a daily basis. Any suggestions for alternate bands?

Nice looking watch. I got my black Mako in the mail from Amazon yesterday. Very impressed: A lot of watch for $100.

Beautiful watch, but 36mm in diameter seems a bit small. Ray, can you confirm the size of the case?

i have this watch with the dark dial.. definitely switch the band (POS) but yea.. it’s SUPER nice at this price point.

Nice watch. I went with the black face on a Stainless Steel Band for 109.75 including tax (using above code). I figured I could buy a leather band later but might have a bit more trouble finding a stainless steel one that looks as good.

Great looking watch. Just picked one up right now. I hope the band width is 18mm because I’m planning on putting one of those J. Crew suede straps on it.

oh and i know they are “50%” off but i remember i bought this watch for $60 – 1.5 years ago

    Band Length:20mm

The length yeah, but I want to see what the width is. It looks like 18mm (I can’t imagine a 36mm watch having any bigger), though.

36mm is the size of the J. Crew Timexs too. It’s perfect for skinny/athletic wrists.

Guess I’ll be sporting unofficial time pieces this summer.

For alternative band suggestions, I’d swap out that leather band right away. J. Crew has some (fairly expensive, but still) leather and suede swappable NATO-style bands that would look great on this.

Damn. those wrists must work out.

by 20mm, they probably mean width. i can’t imagine a watch being 20mm long 🙂

Looks like it’s sold out, was so gonna buy this. FFUUUUUUUU… /rageface 🙁

Just be patient, they’ll have it back again soon. They’ll just need to import more in from Japan. And those coupons work seemingly forever. You can also sign up for a watch deal of the day email from these guys, but with only a limited collection expect to see repeated deals quickly.

It’s no longer sold out. Also there’s tax in CA at least.

I’ve got a few Orient watches and they’re great. The automatics start up almost immediately and they keep great time. They also have a wide variety of options in their collection so there’s something for just about anyone.

Big fan of Orients. I just picked a second one. I have the black/charcoal version of the “Chief” and the cross-hatching is nice. The bizarly orange-ish band that it came on is not that nice. One of these days I’ll get around to replacing it…

I ordered the black face. $96 shipped with tax in CA.

Great looking watch, and Orient’s movements are a great value in the class.

For anyone that is interested in getting a replacement band, check these guys out:
    http://fandebnb.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc
I have ordered from them before, and the bands are of good quality, especially for the price. I highly recommend getting a band with a quick release pin, makes changing the band much easier.

Can anyone confirm that the J.Crew watchbands will work on this without leaving an unsightly gap?
