Hitching retail markdowns to Memorial Day makes for an odd pairing. It’s not the norm in Canada, and Eddie Bauer caused a huge stir there last fall by having a week long “Remembrance Day” sale. Memorial Day in the states is seen by most as the unofficial kickoff to summer, and the fun of a backyard BBQ doesn’t seem disrespectful at all.
Maybe if the stores were closed on Monday and the names of the sales instead reflected the change of the season. That way Monday would be reserved for, y’know… not going to the mall. We’ll remove the soapbox from under our feet and get on with a pick from each of the major sales, but please feel free to have your say in the comments. And travel safe if you’re on the road this holiday weekend.

Madras isn’t for everyone. But at least this pattern isn’t so bright it’ll shred your retinas. Faded just a touch, colors that compliment each other, and certainly not for everyone.
Original Penguin Polos are just flat out expensive. The Earl is one of the more affordable ones (at $60?0 but with the 30% knocked off it drops to just above $40. Heritage slim fit and seven color options. Code is good site wide with a few restrictions (swimwear is one of them).
Both come from the Kenneth Cole New York line and now the lower REACTION brand. Both are final sale items so you can NOT return them… making these risky. The Suede boots are “polished” at the heel and toe (tough to tell how they’ll look in person) but the “Mind Control” Boot looks to be dead on. A rounded toe, zip side, one of those casual boots you might find yourself wearing a lot of come fall.
By “select” items they mean fifteen. Fifteen items. That’s it. At least this 12.5″/23″/12.5″ bag is one of them.
Interesting that they chose to drop this particular shirt by half off for this sale. One of those patterns that works well all year round, but especially in summer. Looks like the code NEW expires today. But if you partner this shirt up with say, this pink striped version, you can get both, shipped free (pre-code price is $50 total) for just $37.50.
It’s not terrible (ringing endorsement right?) but the fit is a little wonky on the one I tried on. Armholes were a little low, and tailoring will be needed. Macy’s also has a bunch of “Specials” that are all over the place. The extra 15% off code KICKOFF works on all but the usual big name exclusions.
All hail the relaxed cotton blazer. Patch pocket up top with flaps on the bottom. Probably will need tailoring. Code only works on sale items.
Not a bad blazer at all. But when they mean micro-stripe, they mean it. Very thin stripes that only show up when you’re within a few feet. Banana Republic’s “Tailored” fit is quite close. For example, I’m a 38R in their “Modern” fit, but a 40R in the tailored. A 38 in this jacket on me felt like I was going to tear the back. Watch for this jacket to show up again in the coming weeks.
