Top 5 Most Wanted – April 2011

Consider these to be power rankings. Whether you’re looking for gift ideas or a quick upgrade for yourself, expect these to come around about once a month. The best of the best, which you may or may not have seen already. Agreements, disagreements, and additions are more than welcome in the comments section below.

5. Calibrate Dixon Wingtip Oxford – $130.00icon
Hoping they eventually make one in grey

A suede/nubuck true oxford with wingtip details AND it’s got a slim shape?  Nice.  Now if it’ll just go on sale…

.

4. L.L. Bean Signature Mariner Stripe Jersey Polo – $19.99 (reg. $29.99)
Ships free too.

Should have a decently trim fit, the placket dips lower and offers plenty of buttons, and it’s made from Jersey fabric not pique.  Plus L.L. Bean now offers free shipping with no minimum.

.

3. GAP Classic Black Blazer – $73.50 SHIPPED w/code GAPGET25 (reg. $98.00)
Nicely done GAP.

The use of the word “chino” in the item title on Gap.com is a little misleading.  This isn’t some rumpled chino blazer like the Old Navy variety (which are great in their own way).  The cotton is smooth, the blazer has a perfect weight to it, and it can be easily dressed up or down.  Great fit off the rack, perfect fit once it gets back from your tailor (like it just did from mine).  With jeans now, with lighter chinos come summer time.  Goes on sale a lot too.  As good as it gets.  UPDATE: Looks like this sale is one of their “select customer” sales.  Your discount could be more, could be less.  Thanks to John Boyer in the comments for picking up on that.

.

2.  Montrek World Time Automatic Watch – $218.40icon (reg. $650)
Whoa.

Was $650, dropped in price a few times because of sales, now an extra 20% off with the code MARCHFF.  Automatic too.  Incredible for just north of $200.

.

1. Wood and Faulk 16″ Carpenter’s Bag in Black – $119.00

That'll do nicely. And then some.

Credit to Phil for sending in the style tip on Wood and Faulk.  Black, heavy duty cotton canvas with a lighter honey-colored leather.  I myself am a big fan of that color combination.  It’s only $120, and get this… it’s made in the U.S.lack

Uncle Nordy wants this stuff gone. Cashmere sweaters. Lots of chukkas. Plenty of Bonobos.

Those wingtips are legit. Too bad the blazer is in black, though.

    Watch is gone.

Was just going to post the same thing… pity. That’s an incredible watch.

Crud. Well I guess that makes my decision (I was thinking about it. Sorta. Maybe.) easy for me. Maybe it’ll be like Nordstrom, where items come, go, and then come back again…

Just a quick note on the GAP jacket. Just like last time, different people are being shown different promo codes. I got 20% off and when I tried the 30% and 25% off codes, they didn’t work.

Like this stuff – never thought about an orange faced watch. Anyone care to testify on L.L. Polos?

That being said, I do have to say Dappered covers very un-masculine bags. My girlfriend would carry this “carpenters bag” in a second. The “Rugged Twill Briefcase” from J. Crew that’s all over this site (and always on sale – for a reason) is another example. Just sayin.

Here: http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=461822&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results Perfect for all your man-stuff. Coke, cash, etc. Extra 20% off with MARCHFF too. 🙂 Anywho, the Filson Original gets lots of play here, and I don’t think it’s that far off from the Wood and Faulk: http://www.filson.com/products/original-briefcase.70256.html. My personal favorite, albeit pricey, is this one from Hugo Boss: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/boss-black-pebbled-leather-flap-briefcase/3077446?origin=category&resultback=3876 Too girly still?

Those blue (ocean) wing tips are beautiful. Would go well with khakis.

Whoa, Filson has some awesome bags. Wish my pockets were that deep! Thanks, Joe.

My pleasure (not sure why that link isn’t working, should go to their original briefcase, $210). Made in the USA as well.

Nice catch. I thought it was 25 across the board. Updated.

I love those wing tips. If they drop under $100, I will pounce on them like a cheetah.

I’m liking that bag. Anyone have experience with it? Would it make a good laptop bag? I have a big-ass laptop and it’s fairly heavy, so it can be a pain in the ass.

Agreed. Don’t wear black enough to justify it. I would love a solid navy or chino option.
