Endless 20% Off Select Men’s Oxfords/Lace-ups Sale
Let’s get this out of the way before those who are overly concerned with style terminology have a seizure. Not all men’s dress shoes are oxfords. Technically. Some are, but not all. It’s kinda like how all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. A true oxford is a shoe with closed lacing. A blucher/derby shoe is more common, and has open lacing. Here’s a not so sophisticated diagram.
The good news is that most don’t care, and in the U.S. when someone says “oxford” in reference to shoes they usually mean any kind of men’s non-boot, not-athletic lace up. Now if you’re of the camp that believes this is an injustice and you’re holding out hope that one day we’ll stop using the terms interchangeably? I got news for you. Like Dennis Kucinich running for President, your passion is admirable. But it ain’t happenin’ friend.
Endless doesn’t care either and they’re running a 20% off select oxfords sale. By oxfords they mean men’s shoes with laces that can be dressed up at least a little bit. Here’s some picks:
.
Bass Barclay Oxford – $63.96
(reg. $79.95) w/ free overnight shipping.

Free overnight shipping on a $60 shoe which you can also return for free if you don’t like it. I’m not quite sure how Endless is making money on these. Because frankly? They could be awful. And that means they, Endless, would pay for shipping back too. But could be worth a flyer for some.
Florsheim Kearney – $71.96
(reg. $89.95)

The standard suede buck. Lots of colors to chose from, from Florsheim’s cheapest line, and comes with the standard Endless 2-day shipping with free returns.
Johnston & Murphy Brennan Nubuck Oxfords – $103.96
(reg. $129.95)

Ridiculously comfortable. Full review over here. Available in grey, navy, red, taupe, and white.
Florsheim Whitworth Oxford – $112.00
(reg. $175.00)

Good news for the wide foot fellas. These come in 3E as well as the standard D, plus they’re already on sale. The extra 20% discount drops a simple cap toe from the Florsheim “Imperial” line (think mid-grade gas, only shoes) into that sweet spot of just over $100.
Gordon Rush Ashburn – $132.32
(reg. $225.00)

A warning: These can be stiff out of the box. I’ve owned a pair for a few years. They’re made in China, and don’t seem worthy of a $225 regular price tag. On sale, and with the extra $20% off they’re at a reasonable price. For the hardcore minimalist. Great toe shape, pretty sleek through the body, and as little stitching as possible.
Magnanni Federico Oxford – $159.20
(reg. $199.00)

Nice. Slick. Just that fine cap toe line across the top, closed lacing makes it sleek, and jet black. Made in Spain and falls into that extremely rare mid $100s range.
Allen Edmonds Vernon Oxford – $235.96
(reg. $295.00)

As modern as AEs get. Endless is one of the few places that discounts Allen Edmonds with some consistence. Made in the USA, a “slightly tapered toe”, and those distinct perforations.
No word, yet, on when the Endless 20% off select men’s “oxfords” sale ends…
Thanks Joe. Was not aware of the oxford/blucher distinction. Shall now happily file under superfluous but cool, and henceforward silently deride any philistine who utters the terms incorrectly.
I’m going to buy the AE Oxfords – thanks for the tip. I’ve been looking for this type of shoe with perforations or some type of medallion for a while now (truthfully I’d prefer a cool medallion…but this will do). The problem is finding a nice pair of this style shoe in black that isn’t also wingtip. I can’t stand wingtip!
Hi Joe,
I’ve been waiting for a sale to pick up some Allen Edmonds. Is 20% a pretty decent sale price for them or does endless.com ever do 40% off sales? (Waiting for 30% is probably not worth it as much)
Thanks!
Howdy Apollom… Y’know, the low 200s is about as low as I’ve seen AE’s. There was that rare incident with Lands’ End Canvas the other day, when they knocked 40% off: http://dappered.com/2011/04/lands-end-canvas-40-off-any-one-item/ but it was just the two styles LEC carries. And they’re both pretty traditional. AE has a spring sale ending today: http://www.allenedmonds.com/ but their prices don’t dip as low as Endless and the selection is different. Endless has done a 25% sale in the past, but they’re rare. Usually 20% off, putting AEs in the low 200s price range is a solid deal.
Laughed at the intro.
I’ve had a seizure on here over the Oxford/Derby distinction.
Found those bass in blue suede at local JCP for $39, after a random $10 discount the fine youn lady at the counter gave me.
Been kickin those things like a one-legged ninja.
anyone know how long this sale lasts?
@ only shawn – that was the most incredible descriptor I’ve ever read. “Been kickin those things like a one-legged ninja.”
