Bonobos – New Customers take $50 off ($100) when you click here
*
You’ll be asked for your email and zip, then you’ll get a code.
UPDATE: Thanks to Dave S in the comments who correctly points out that the $50 off offer only applies when you spend $100 or more. Wasn’t made aware of that by Bonobos, and that obviously changes the savings since it won’t apply to just one pair of chinos or just one oxford.
Ninety bucks is a lot for a pair of pants. Eighty is quite a bit for a shirt. But give Bonobos credit. They’ve been growing a viciously loyal customer base despite the much higher than your average GAP-khakis price tag. They concentrate on fit, customer service, and a few extra details that give their clothes a cool character. They’ve also expanded far beyond pants by way of their JCrewy curation initiative
. Meaning: They find cool stuff, and whether it’s their brand or not, they have it for you to buy on their site.
But their foundation would be the pants. Basics like their oxfords too. And it’s the fit which Bonobos believes sets their clothes apart. They believe this so much that they’re offering $50 off for first timers. Provide your email and zip, get a code, and get something from Bonobos for cheap. This is what you can expect once you pull a pair of their chinos and/or one of their oxfords straight out of their particularly nice box:
.
The Chinos: Grey Dogs Straight Leg Washed Chino – $88.00

The Fit: It is better. Slimness feels somewhere between a Dockers D1 and D2. They move extremely well. The rise and shape of the pant is real nice. But $90 nice? More on that later.
The Weight: Lighter in weight than I had expected, but still plenty sturdy feeling.
The Feel: Much more comfortable than a standard pair of chinos, but still plenty dressed up.
The Fronts: No crease down the legs.
The Details: Plaid interior pockets which barely peek through on the rear, lime green zipper trim, good hardware.
.
The Shirt: Burton White “Standard Fit” Oxford – $80.00
Made in the USA

The Fit: They call it their “standard” fit, but there’s nothing retail bulky standard about it. Athletic but not tight. Like somewhere between a 1MX modern fit, and a 1MX fitted.
The Weight: It’s real oxford cloth, so it’s heavier than a dress shirt. But medium to lightweight for an oxford.
The Feel: Really good. You could easily wear this shirt with anything.
The Front: Perfect length for tucked in or untucked.
The Details: Made in the USA? You kidding? Can’t go wrong with that. Points for the smaller chest pocket.
.
The Bottom Line:
Bonobos gets an A+ for presentation, customer service, and making their customers feel like they’ve purchased incredibly unique clothes from a one of a kind company. But I’ve never felt like my butt looked all that frumpy in a pair of otherwise slim & modern khakis from other brands. While the extra details are nice, I think $90 is a stretch.
But unlike me, Bonobos is convinced you’ll be back for more at full price after your first pair. So to break the newbie inertia, they’re offering first time customers $50 off their first order $50 off their first order of $100 or more (see update at top of page). Just enter your email and zip here for a code.
Is $90 too much for any pair of chinos? Got experience with Bonobos? Leave it all in the comments section below.
*And no you don’t have to click through Dappered for the offer. This non-affiliate link will get you there too.
**Wasn’t made aware that the code only works on orders of $100 or more. Post updated early AM 3/22.
Don’t get it if you’re in Canada, apparently
hmm how does the sizing run on these? i’ve a 32″ waist and buy 29W from The Gap.
When I enter the code during checkout it tells me that it is only good on orders of $100 or more???
Yes, that is true, to get the $50 off your total needs to be more than $100; I’m not sure about Joe’s link but most Bonobos links give $50 off $100 or more to the buyer and a $50 credit to a referrer should the *actual money-paid total* come to $100 or more. If Joe’s link gives him a $50 credit, use it. If not, might I humbly suggestion you use mine so I get the credit? http://www.bonobos.com/invite/linter16483 . Joe should jump in here, though, and get the credit if credit is due, ha ha!
I tried this a couple weeks ago. I agree with the details being spot on but 90 bucks for a pair of pants is too much of a stretch. I’m trying to find a way to finagle another $50 bucks off… PS a good choice to start off (especially since spring and summer are around the corner) are their lightweight chinos. A few of them are already on sale too.
Are you kidding me. Apologies guys, that was not made clear to me. All I was told was $50 off. I’ll update the post. Please know that I was not, under any circumstances, trying to intentionally mislead you.
I don’t get a $50 credit, I’m just using our standard affiliate links we tend to use, linking to that specific landing page. Scouts honor. Interesting new wrinkle though.
Bonobos is my favorite retailer hands down. The pants are a great investment, and over the past couple years, I’ve pretty much rotated at least 8 or 9 pairs of them in as my go to for everything but jeans (the bull denim is pretty solid, too). Their customer service is outstanding, and the free shipping and return policy can’t be beat. I had a dry cleaner ruin my first pair of Bonobos that I bought back in 2009 and they allowed me to exchange them last month, no questions asked.
I can’t say enough good things about this company.
I can’t say enough good things about Bonobos. I’m on my 7th pair and know I’ll be back for more swag given the LivingSocial deal I bought for them ($50 for $125 credit, with a free $125 to gift to a friend for paying with Visa — are you kidding me?? :D).
I started by getting the $50 off $100 coupon and buying two $50 pairs during a sale last year.. when I finally had chinos that fit me correctly, I couldn’t go back to anything else. They have enough coupons floating around that I’ve never paid more than $40 a pair, and to me, since fit is paramount, I’d probably pay more. Keep an eye on their ever-changing sale page, follow them on Twitter for short-time savings, and you’ll be as hooked as I am. Looking forward to buying their golf slacks and shirts very soon.
Personal anecdote 1: I had a pair of Grey Dogs that just wasn’t working for me in terms of color – I never wore them and wanted something darker. They let me return them, no questions asked, and sent me a fresh pair of black slacks, paid for the return shipping, and helped me along the way with questions. Their customer service ninjas ROCK.
Personal anecdote 2: I “won” a pair of chinos in their Super Bowl “contest” this year — you put $25 down on either team to win; if you “lost,” your $25 just turned into store credit, but if you “won,” you got a pair of chinos for your $25 — I had input my size, then afterward decided I wanted to get my brother his first pair with the winnings, but they shipped out so quickly that my 31x30s were on the way within a day. I emailed customer service, they intercepted the package and sent out the 34x30s before the other pair even got back to them. Seriously, their customer service ninjas ROCK. 🙂
$90…more than half their collection is $150+ with some pants pushing $195!!!! Are you kidding me? All for some special waistband? I can get custom tailored pants for less than that.
I feel the same way. Truthfully, I’ve never spent more than 40 bucks for pants(unless they came with a matching jacket). But there sale section is much more doable, and the 50$ off a 100$ purchase made it worth a shot for me. 195 is egregious, but 2 at 25 bucks a piece… not too shabby.
I guess I’m not this far along in my sartorial journey. I’m hard to fit (28×28) but surprising Banana Republic carries wool pants for at least 1/2 the price as bonobos and I don’t have to go get them tailored. Plus, I don’t know how bonbos would look if dress pants are 34″ long and I get that much hemmed off.
No problemo. And that being the case, EVERYONE ordering more than $100 in total, PLEASE feel free to use my link -:)
Those look nice, and I’m not above (or below?) paying $90 for nice pants. But I like my pants a little more tapered/slim, like the J.Crew Urban Slim or B.R. Vintage Slim. If they came out with some of that fit then I might be persuaded to give them a try.
Glad you finally touched base with Bonobos, i splurged on a blazer with a heavy price tag a few months ago – can’t take it off. Their products truly are quality with customer service to boot.
they look like nice pants from what I’ve seen, but too expensive for me. I generally find some way to either ruin, shrink, or outgrow my pants within a year or so, so not worth it. I also have larger-than-normal thighs from weightlifting, so I’m moving into the “can’t find any flat-front pants that fit” category I guess, the D2 pants look like skinny-jeans hah.
I must throw in my praise for Bonobos as well. I’ve got quite a few pairs at this point – cords, chinos, wools, etc. While I’ve returned a couple along the way I’ve been very happy with almost everything. The price is certainly higher than the Dockers I used to buy, but not much different than Banana Republic, J Crew, Brooks Brothers, etc for comparable pants. (Looking at BR right now I see $80 chinos and $150 wools, for example.) In my experience Bonobos provides comparable or better quality, better customer service, and more fun/individuality than those brands at a comparable price. And they’ve changed my mind on how much a good pair of pants is worth.
It looks as if they have a black watch sport coat coming soon. With the $50 off it would bring the price to just a tad over $200, which is considerably less than the J.Crew that we saw featured on Dappered in the last week or two. Tempting…

Has anybody compared their quality to, for example, Indochino or any of the other made to measure tailors?
I’m 6’7″, so finding pants that fit can be a challenge. The length of the Bonobos looks like it could work, so I am tempted to give them a try. At the same time I can get wool pants that are guaranteed to fit from Indochino for 90 bucks.
Also curious on the sizing. My waist is right between 30 and 31 so depending on actually how slim fitting certain pants are I may go one way or the other.
Waist is about an inch and a half larger than size. I am usually a 32, but needed a 31 to fit properly.
Like Simeon said, I wear 32×32 in Levi’s 501s, got a 32×32 in the Grey Dogs, fit okay for me, coulda gone one size down. With their return policy you should be pretty good once you find your fit…
I was hoping they had short sleeve fitted oxfords. Anybody know where I can look?
just out of curiosity, and maybe this is just the ignorant college student who only owns 2 “dress shirts” and has a really low budget speaking, but why spend 80 bucks on a white button down shirt…. i get spending more for quality, so i assume there is something that makes this shirt stand out over the $30-50 standard whit shirts.. something to do with oxford cloth?
The jacket looks great, but the button stance is really throwing me off. That’s really high up for only 2 buttons!
I agree, I bought my husband a pair of gunsmokes in bull denim and all four of our daughters made a complimentary comment on them. I just bought him another pair.
Good job bonobos for dropping rush limbaugh i will be buying from yall never heard of yall until this i got info from msnbc rachel maddow show
Unfortunately. They stopped doing the $50 thing, but if you refer a friend your friend gets $25 off of a $75 or more purchase, and you get $25 store credit. If any new customer wants to try a pair, follow this link for $25 off.
