Shades Of Grey By Micah Cohen Corduroy 2-Button Blazer – $129.99 (reg. $198)
It’s just your average navy corduroy, patch pocket, grey tweed patched elbows… blazer.
This thing has a lot going on. Where to start. Probably the feature that everyone will first notice is the elbow patches. The lighter grey tweed jumps out. A lot. Maybe too much for some who prefer their elbow patches darker than the rest of the jacket.
The cut looks good and trim but the lapels aren’t hipster skinny. The length looks pretty short, and if it were made by BDG for Urban Outfitters, I’d say skip it. Those blazers are chopped so short that they’re awkward. What’s really odd about this blazer is the one, just one button on each sleeve cuff. Looks like it’s the exact same size as the buttons on the front too. Weird. Not a hard fix for you or your tailor if you want to tack a few more on there.
So… would you wear it? Leave your vote in the comments section below.
Need something that’s less of a risk? The Boden Everyday unstructured jacket is still on sale for $98.00. (UPDATE: It’s now on sale for $74. Skip this thing and go with the Boden…) Boden comes highly recommended, and the jacket looks superb. Some average sizes are still available too.

this screams super casual trying to look serious…id wear it but it would def be a dressed DOWN look…
Its nice in concept. I like Navy blazers, and I love elbow patches on everything. I think that this one will be tough to pull off as its not nice enough to be ‘elegant’, but its certainly a step up from ‘casual’. To me, this is a Pass, as I would rather something more casual or fancier…but it has the right elements to be a Buy.
I wear a blazer pretty often, for work & play, so I’m sometimes looking for a little variety. This jacket has a nice trim cut, and I think the grey elbow patch adds just enough character without trying too hard. I would probably keep it casual, but sure, I’d wear it.
I’m going to break from HM and DaveS. I don’t like the elbow patches. I feel like it is drawing attention to my elbows.
That color combination of the blazer and elbow patches would make the perfect cardigan.
No way with the elbow patches. As Bar None says, the patches seem like an obvious grab for attention, and there’s nothing cool about that. Pass, imo.
Just say no to elbow patches.
Anyone else have an issue with the length of the blazer as well as the elbow patches?
@AJ: It’s just too damn short. The shirt looks almost as long as the blazer or even longer which would look stupid. That’s like wearing a top coat shorter than your blazer, which looks dumb. So this means you’ll have to tuck it in…which ruins the whole casual thing. I say no to this thing.
@Ngoc-Huong – I would tuck in the shirt if I was wearing a blazer anyway. IMO the jeans are what make it look casual.
That Boden cord blazer is nice. I like the patchwork on this featured jacket, but overall, that Boden has it going on… especially in the price. They have my size too! Too bad I don’t need it… Great finds man!
elbow patches = University humanities/social science professor. No.
