Nordstrom V-Neck Merino Wool Sweater – $33.90 (reg. $69.50)
Is this the deal of the season? Sizes are getting scarce but you might be able to find it in-store if you have a Nordstrom near by. Here’s what these have going for them:
- Merino Wool
- Great looking mid depth collar
- Slim looking fit
- Made in Italy (!)
- About as inexpensive as a wool V-Neck gets
They have an average of four out of five stars online, but the most encouraging review happens to come from the guy who actually rated it the lowest:
Perfect. Thanks to Doug. Sounds like a guy who is understandably used to all of those bulky clothes that are unfortunately marketed towards men over the age of 40. Merino wool should fit closer than lambswool or cotton, and sweaters in general shouldn’t be so over-sized that they make you look like the Michelin Man.
Available in black, navy, an orange “rust” color, grey, and red. Sizes are all over the place and going fast. Part of Nordstrom’s ongoing Half-Yearly Sale for Men which ends on Thursday January 6th.
.
On a different note, Old Navy has marked down their sweaters to $10-15 though you’d probably have to go to a store to find a decent color/size. They’re cotton, appear to be decent quality, and if you jump down a size (i’m a medium and bought a small) then they fit perfect.
Express also has deep discounts going. Their merino wool sweaters are at $30 and 1mx shirts are at $20. If you’ve got a mailer with a cash discount laying around that could be a great deal.
@Adam: The issue I have with the Express Sale is that for the 1MX they just have bright colors. Same goes for their sweaters. They’re pretty sneaky when it comes to what they put on sale. But totally agreed about the Old Navy sweaters. Size down and it should fit great.
I was at express and they had some earthy and dark 1MX on sale and darker sweaters, you just have to look (probably because it is more popular to get dark than pastel). Personally, I prefer bright.
This sounds great. It can be difficult finding a sweater that’s fitted, even in a size small.
@Joe: Instore the color story is much better than online. I just got back from the store and picked up merino wool black, dark grey, light grey sweaters and a few cardigans. Their outerwear is also priced to move – they won’t have the slim fit topcoat in stock, but the regular is almost as good (80% wool, 20% poly shell) and is only 79.99 after the 20% markdown.
@Joe: I know you generally go for neutrals and dark colors. I personally like something bright from time to time. I own a few dark/neutral 1mx’s and sweaters, but I’ve got a few of more vibrant ones as well.
I’m sorry… what’s the big deal about Italian-made?
One more note, the 1MX should be tried on in-store. I wear a medium in most every brand, but needed a large in the 1MX.
@Bar None: Which fit were you trying on? Modern fit has a little more room. The “fitted” fit is as tailored in as off the rack seems to get…
The Nordstrom Rack online store has this in Black; medium color for $24.97. Should still be able to wear it on cooler Fall days. Might be able to get cashback with MrRebates.
