Brooks Brothers Winter Clearance – The best under $100

Brooks Brothers Winter 2011 Clearance – The best under $100

A Brooks Brothers Clearance sale is unlike any other.  All of their on clearance expensive clothing (like suits and blazers) have been whittled down to only the extreme sizes before the prices were reduced.  (56 L suit anyone?)  And that’s where most of us start our shopping when it comes to a clearance at a huge name like Brooks Brothers.  We look for a home run deal that would allow us to pick up an investment piece that otherwise would be way out of reach.

But if you don’t hang in there and check out the less expensive, smaller stuff, you might assume that anything under $100 is no longer available in a common size.  Not true.  Here’s the proof:
.

The Shirt: Extra Slim Fit Pencil Stripe French Cuff Dress Shirt – $39.75 (reg. $79.50)

Under $40 with plenty of good details.

They (meaning everyone) just don’t make enough pencil stripe dress shirts anymore.  It’s a great pattern that seems to have fallen out of favor with most dress shirt makers.  The fit is Brooks Brothers’ EXTRA slim design, has a spread collar, and you’ll need some cufflinks to go with it too.
.

The Cardigans:  Merino – $69.00 (reg. $138) | Cotton/Wool – $39.75 (reg. $80)

Incredible, and more than decent.

I’m not usually the type to drool over cardigans, but that merino wool one on the left might create a bit of a Pavlovian response.  It’s the stripe and the brown buttons.  Looks awesome.  Still spendy at $70, but most sizes available.  The cotton wool mix to the right is a bit cheaper.
.

The Gloves:  Cashmere Lined Lambskin Gloves – $64.00 (reg. $128)

Available in a boatload of odd colors too.

The extra detail on these gloves that’s worth a mention is the easy to see stitching around the exterior.  The triple line stitch on the top is nothing new, but combined with that stitch around the outside?  It makes them stand out.  Made in Italy.
.

The Sweatshirt: Cotton/Wool Mix Hooded Sweater – $54.50 (reg. $109)

The best looking "hoodie"... ever.

Only about 5% of the hooded sweatshirts in existence are actually worth wearing.  This appears to be, bar none, the best looking one out of all of them.  Cotton and wool mix, slimmer cut, and an arm band accent stripe .
.

The Blazers:  Chino Sport Jacket – $99 ($198) | Chalk Stripe Sport Jacket $99 ($198)

Both are all cotton and unstructured.

The olive should let you go for that professor look without going full bore into an elbow patched corduroy jacket, and that Chalk Stripe Jacket has been featured before.  Not all were fans of the chalk stripe, with some saying it looks like an orphaned suit jacket.  Boden also offers a similar patch pocket version.

Got a favorite?  Leave it in the comments.  I’ll go first:  That hooded sweater/sweatshirt…
