Brooks Brothers Chalk Stripe Sport Jacket – $198.00
Just under $200 might seem expensive for guys who are used to spending around $100 or even less on a blazer. But for the extra money you’ll shell out on this thing, it appears you get a year round sport jacket that has no flaws.
It’s unstructured, 100% cotton, has an amazing stand-out stripe, and great looking buttons. It’s also a slimmer fit, half lined in chambray, and being that it’s coming from Brooks Brothers it’s fair to expect a high level of quality.
This is not a standard blue wool blazer. This is cotton, with natural shoulders, and whereas the gold buttons used to be the most noticeable feature on the ol’ navy blazer… this version skips those. (UPDATE: It’s also listed as black? Looks deep navy to me?) Instead, the can’t miss detail is the obvious chalk stripe. That’s a huge upgrade. And even with the stripe, you should be able to get away with wearing it casually. The model in the pic is wearing the rear patch pocket Brooks Brothers Slim Fit 5-pocket chinos. Those are about as close to jeans as a pair of chinos can get.
Sometimes you can get away with inexpensive alternatives to the higher priced Brooks Brothers look. But this jacket seems to be unique, so be prepared to pay up if you’re interested.
Too expensive? Even worth consideration?
I dunno… I feel that stripes on a sport jacket make it look like an orphaned suit jacket. Black can also have versatility issues.
+1 to Hasan’s points…Something about it just doesnt sit right with me…dont know
I don’t think I will ever get accustomed to jackets that are so short they look like a skirt on a man.
dont buy this if its your first blue blazer
It’s also listed as black? Maybe I’m preconditioned to think: Brooks Brothers = Blue blazer. I’d personally wear this over a hard shouldered gold button version.
The color is listed as black on the BB site. Admittedly, the jacket in the picture does look navy.
Jacket is way too short in my opinion. I agree with others who say this looks like an orphaned suit jacket. I’m of the school that sport coats should clearly look like they are not part of a suit.
Agree on all points that it’s too short and looks too much like an orphaned suit jacket. This would have worked well if it were navy with more contrasting (possibly white) buttons, and of course was longer.
