All the credit in the world goes to Matt M. who sent in this style tip. Looks like J. Crew is taking a breather from collaborating on $400 pairs of shoes and $900 jackets, and instead is throwing a bone to their less affluent customers. From 12:00am on Friday through Midnight on Sunday, J. Crew “factory” items (translation, cheaper… a step down) will be available for purchase online. Is this a permanent new option? Or is this a one off special? It’s probably a little of both, in the way that it’s an experiment. If it’s successful, and they make money… why not do it again?
Here’s some of what’s worth looking at:
.
Hoo-ray for grey. Both scream fall and cooler football weather. The marled shawl collar is another great alternative to a hoodie. Although the cord blazer is three button, it’s nice to see a change of pace from the standard lighter brown 70’s-ish color you usually see these in. Nice tonal classic buttons too. But if you’ve got an extra $20 to spend, your best bet is still the deep dark brown J. Crew Ludlow that’s on sale right over here.
.
A basic most likely not schlubby merino V-neck for under $40? Those are Gap pima cotton prices. Eight colors to choose from, plenty of sizes. If you like a little more character and need some stripes, the Union Stripe V-Neck costs just a bit more but delivers the thin stripes with none of the mime-ness.
.
I own one of these exact money clips. Not the one you see above, but the red and navy option. Picked it up for about the same price at some outlets outside of Park City Utah while on Vacation in the spring. They’re perfect if you’re a jeans and casual cotton blazer kind of guy. As for the Wool Herringbone tie… you can see a busier (and therefor, in my opinion, worse) version on the cover of this month’s GQ.
JCrew.com is saying that this thing only lasts until Midnight ET on Sunday. Who knows if it’ll happen again next week. Any and all experiences with J. Crew Factory Merchandise are more than welcome in the comments section below.
