Stand up straight man. You’re on Gap.com. The pic of GAP’s new Gray Herringbone blazer on their website just doesn’t do the garment justice. It’s honestly one of the better blazers I’ve tried on in awhile. As soon as you lift it up off the rack you’re hit by the construction. Not a hint of flimsiness, but it still has plenty of movement.
It’s an 80% cotton 20% poly blend that feels excellent in your hands. The herringbone pattern is slightly raised, and if you run a fingernail across it you can feel each chevron pass underneath. Gap.com’s first bullet point under the blazer’s overview is: “High-quality woven cotton blend blazer.” And yeah, it actually is. Apologies for the awful fitting room light, it’s much more gray in person…
For the fit it comes pre-contoured but not so much so that you can skip a trip to the tailor. It should come in a bit more at the sides if you’re pretty fit or skinny. The arm holes are nice and high, much higher than you’d expect. A welcome step in the right direction for GAP and their blazers. The lapel width is medium and the buttons have a very slight shine to them. The buttons at the cuffs are non functional, which should make it a little easier on your tailor if you need to bring up the sleeves.
A note to GAP: More of this please. This blazer’s retail price of $98 is absolutely fair. But with all the sales GAP runs, like the one they’re running now (25% off online with code GAPGIFT at checkout), it’s a steal when discounted. Under $80 for a limited time plus free shipping since it’s over $50.
I usually wear a medium and this felt pretty true to size to me. I wouldn’t wear a small at 5’9″ 165lbs.
