J. Crew Sweater Sale – Gift Picks for Him, Her, and You.
Use code SHIP150 for free shipping when you spend $150 or more
Is giving a sweater as a Christmas present cliche? A bit. But what if it’s an awesome sweater that the recipient will count as one of their favorites for years to come?
J. Crew does a fine job in the sweater department. They’re running a 25% off sale that ends today, and you can get those sweaters shipped free if you spend more than $150 (which is a lot) and use the code SHIP150. That code is good through December 20th, but the sweater sale only lasts till 11:59 PM ET tonight. Here’s a couple of picks to package up so you can get the free shipping.
.
For Him: Fine Lambswool Mock Neck Cardigan – $73.50 (reg. $98)

The traditional style of a cardigan is nice, but it’s a high mock neck version like this that he’ll reach for over and over again. He can wear this thing just about however and wherever he wants. It leans a little casual but it can still do some dressed up duty with chinos. Not all guys like v-necks. Not all guys like traditional cardigans. This is the answer for the “it’s cold, I need something warm, what should I wear?” question. Layer it under a standard collar fall jacket if you’re headed somewhere that would otherwise require you to get your peacoat or topcoat dirty.
.
For Her: Cable Ribbed Turtle Neck or Chalet Shawl Collar – $73.50 (reg. $98)

There’s hardly anything better than a great looking woman in a well fitting sweater. Let her pick out the sweaters with embellishments. You should stick with the classics. Like a turtleneck or a modified shawl collar. If you really want to get spendy, J. Crew makes a cashmere turtleneck that’ll be all soft and no itch. Save the receipt because buying clothes for a woman isn’t the easiest size/color/style code to crack.
.
For You: Heavy Cotton Shawl Collar Cardigan – $88.50 (reg. $118)

I know, another cardigan… but you can get your standard V-necks and crewnecks for a bit less (even on sale) at other places. It’s this substantial black cotton cardigan with the leather (or leather like?) buttons that’ll be hard to find anywhere else. It’s almost a dead ringer for the style Daniel Craig wore in Quantum of Solace when he goes and looks up Mathis for help. His sweater might be shaker wool, but a thick cotton will work deeper into the spring. Slimmer shawl collar on the J. Crew version too. Hard to say you can improve on 007’s style, but… this one does.

Figured this may help someone.
Does anyone else have quality problems with JCREW knits? The merino wool sweater I bought from them gets too furry to wear you can barely see the knitting, its not pilling, its just a thin layer of extra fuzz that the entire sweater develops. In comparison, my Gap merino sweater does not do that.
Also their cotton knit sweater starting pilling on me and developed rough patches after 1 wash.
@kin, I haven’t had any problems. I have 5-6 sweaters of various types from j.crew, and they are all holding excellently. I especially love their fine lambswool sweaters, so I’d recommend the first suggestion above myself.
Is it wrong if “Him” and “You” are the same person? 😀
@Bryan: Absolutely not… totally interchangeable!
They brought back their spend $150 get 25%, $250 and 30% all with free shipping. Plus, the sweaters seem to have stayed at their 25% prices for the mean time, but I’ve noticed a lot of the small and medium sizes are now gone.
Great deal though, I just placed a big order and saved a bundle. Saved $90 on their nice Red Wing boots.
