I’m not quite sure if these are ugly, awesome, or both.
The moc toe Lumberjack boot has come out of nowhere to easily become the most noticeable footwear trend of fall 2010. Everyone, and I mean everyone… is selling a version. Contrast soles, rounded clunky toes, and horse-shoe top stitching define these things as casual stompers.

If you see snow less than once or twice a winter, you shouldn’t be interested. But if you live in a place where it gets cold, wet, and sometimes snowy, owning a pair of tough city boots is a good call. Especially if you’d rather not wear your gore tex Asolo’s every time you head out in the weather.
There’s nothing subtle about Timberland’s City Escape. The reddish brown option looks traditional, while the dark brown on a black sole looks more urban than others in this variety. The Blue laces are half sweet and half obnoxious, but the description says each comes with two different sets of laces in different colors. And if the second pair doesn’t look quite right? Buying an extra pair of ivory laces is a quick fix.
From Timberland’s Earthkeepers line, the leather is from a silver rated tannery, while the sole is almost half recycled rubber. Not a bad touch of shoe karma for a boot with an on-sale price of $70.00. That’s a deal when you consider the same pair will run you $160 at Urban Outfitters. Most sizes available.

Credit to Wes for the style tip and extra 20% off. But would you wear it? What’s your take on the City Escape and other similar styled boots like these?
a stab at copying the monster that is “red wings”. I would cop the redish brown ones in a heartbeat…
Biggest size is now 10.5
Just ordered the dark browns – I’m curious to see what color laces I end up with…
you can go to Academy and get the brazos work boot that looks exactly like red wings for $35. But only if you are hell bent on looking like an unemployed construction worker
Not bad looking boots for the price. I’m tempted to pick up a pair although I don’t really need them at the moment. I’ve been waiting for my five year-old Bates paratrooper boots to fall apart. Highly recommended-Goodyear Welt construction and side zipper for easy on and off. They go for about $110 though.
I actually like the Irish Setters linked at the bottom of the article. I read a review on the timerland and it didn’t sound great. The Irish Setter also looks better imo.
I actually bought these a few weeks ago. I’ve gotten a few compliments on them. They aren’t as heavy as some of the other Timberlands and the sole seems a little thin, but they are a good value and seem like they will last a while. I’ve got them in reddish-brown, they come with the yellow shoe strings shown, as well as a second pair of dark brown strings.
Great with a nice pair of corduroys or selvage dark blue jeans. I fall like an autumn-ready mountain man.
I just got my dark brown City Escapes in the mail yesterday. Nice deep brown soft leather that doesn’t need much break-in. I’m wearing them today with 5-pocket cords and they look sharp.
They’re also very comfortable, even on the first wearing. Nice cushioning. Size-wise, they’re true.
I LOVE the blue laces and am leaving them on for that little bit of “Go to Hell” that I like to weave into my style.
Just received my dark browns yesterday as well. VERY soft leather, much more comfortable (and handsome) than my usual go-to BedStu’s, and not clunky at all.
Agree with Jim’s comments on the blue laces – they’re loud (in a good way) but definitely don’t scream.
