Nordstrom 1901 Corduory Blazer – $98.50
So you’ve got the jet black INC cord blazer, and you want another slim, fine wale cord blazer that’s not 1970s orangey-brown. Maybe something in grey, being that a grey jacket can work with jeans and either brown or black shoes. Nordstrom’s trim and affordable line “1901” is one of if not the only place to turn to for a jacket that sure looks like it hits those points and then some.
Here’s the unique combination of details that gives this blazer huge upside:
- Slim Lapels
- Slim Fit
- Lower Patch Pockets
- Besom Chest Pocket
- Fine Wale
- Tortoise Shell Pattern Buttons
- Available in muted grey and brown
The style marriage between the lower patch pockets and the besom chest pocket is extremely well done. It looks great, and although patch pockets are a welcome dressed down effect, a patch pocket on the chest can sometimes look goofy. The lapels are also nice and trim. Something you don’t see on a laid back cord blazer that often. The color options sure look awfully similar on the net, but you can’t go wrong with the grey.
Consider a red checked shirt underneath if you want to stand out a little more. Well reviewed (even though there’s just one review) and sizes range from XS – XXL
This looks good but I prefer a similar option on the J. Crew site right now. $99 for regular but most importantly they have tall sizes for guys that need them for$ 109. I think you recommended it before..I’ve been comparing cord blazers the crew one is my favorite (love the ludlow fit..velvet on my radar too when a sale happens)
Not sure what it is about this blazer, but I really don’t like it. Then again, I’m not a big fan of corduroy blazers anyway. I agree with Alex, the J.Crew one is nicer in my opinion.
I personally like this blazer. I would just have to take in the sleeves because they might fit too loose on me. Then it would look real sharp.
I don’t like it either. I think the pockets are too big. The cut looks crappy too.
Decent price, considering it’s from Nordstrom… but I’m passing.
The J.Crew one is indeed great, and that sale price is nice. I have the ludlow corduroy in the dark brown (carob) color. Not sure I’m crazy about that slightly lighter color though.
One thing about that blazer, though, is that the arms might be a little short or the armholes might be a little low. I’m not sure which, but bending your arms does bring the sleeves up a bit; at least for me. Despite that, though, I still really enjoy mine. I wish they would re-list the non-corduroy lighter tan color blazer.
Oh and on the 2 listed here. I like the grey, but something about the brown one looks wrong.
@Everybody: The J. Crew is pretty nice, but I agree with Bryan. I’m just not in love with the “dark straw” (but I’m sure many of you could pull it off.) I’m a grey addict, now if J. Crew sold a ludlow cord sportcoat in grey for $99? I’d be on that thing in a sec.
