The Express Signature Polo is dead. Long live the Express Signature polo.
Who knows if Express is going to bring back their 97% cotton 3% spandex polo in the spring. There have been rumors that they will, but in the meantime there’s no clear cut heir to the slim fit non pique polo throne.
Lands’ End Canvas offers up a decent substitute, and at $10 you can’t argue with the price, but it’s just not as good as the Express signature. Like the Express signature, there’s no logo on the chest, but instead of a completely blank front you get a pocket. Some guys will like that. Some will not.
It’s a trim fit but not quite as trim as the Express Signature. The L.E.C. version is 100% cotton and while the Express polo moves with you thanks to the stretch, this one (although it does have some nice spring and snap back to the cloth) adds a touch of slack at the sides.
The sleeves are not as short as the borderline too short Express sleeves, and the tail on the L.E.C. drops a bit farther down in back. Shipping from Lands’ End Canvas was fast, and when it arrived… a $10 gift card (plus free shipping on my next purchase) was included in the package. Probably a “thanks for your first purchase” addition, but still. That was pretty nice of them.
Overall, a solid polo that should hold up well for just $10… but paying triple for the Express signature will be well worth it if they ever reappear.
