Get Rid of Pit Stains: Deo-Go Stain Remover

Ben Franklin was right.  And getting rid of the pit stains on an old well worn button up is almost like getting a new one for free.  But there’s the rub.  How the hell do you actually do that?

Back in early September an email came in from a guy named Mike offering to send a bottle of something called Deo-Go to the home offices for a free trial.  The product claims to remove worn in anti-perspirant and sweat stains with a few simple steps.  Spray this stuff on your stained shirt pits, scrub it in, let it sit, and wash.

I had just gotten back from a bit of a road trip and I honestly didn’t think it was going to live up to its promises.  So I told the Mike guy to send a bottle our way, it arrived… and it sat on the floor of the office mostly ignored for a month and a half.  The weather finally changed and I was in need of a few more Express 1mx shirts to layer under sweaters and svests.  But two of my older 1mx shirts had been moved out of rotation due to some dark and waxy looking anti-perspirant stains.  Over the summer I switched from my usual deodorant to anti-perspirant for a stretch.  Bad decision on my part.  All it did was stain up my shirts and did nothing to dry out my underarms.

That’s when I finally remembered that box with the Deo-Go in it that had been sitting in the corner since mid-September.  I followed the instructions, scrubbed it in with a bristle brush and waited for it to penetrate the stain.  One observation:  This stuff smells like almonds.  Not in a bad way, just distinctively.  I then washed it like I normally would.  After that first step there was a noticeable difference, but those well worn stains weren’t completely gone.  The bottle suggested a second round of treatment which my shirts then received, and as soon as they came out of the dryer I looked towards the pits…

Son of a gun.  It worked.  I don’t want to sound like some state fair huckster, but it worked well enough that I’m now wearing both of those shirts with sweater vests again.  Pits showing and all.  The only stain it didn’t completely remove was a bluish tint my white 1mx picked up off a navy Gap blazer I wore (and sweated in) over the summer.  But that’s not what this stuff promises it’ll do.  And I wasn’t expecting it to either.  The surrounding waxy anti-perspirant stains?  Those were in fact gone.

Will it work on every shirt out there?  Who knows.  But they do offer a money back guarantee.
