How to stop getting cologne samples in your magazines

Stop getting Cologne Samples in Esquire & GQ

I am a gigantic fan of all things print.  Newspapers, magazines, in depth journalism or feature writing.  I love it all.  It’s the print reporters who don’t do radio, don’t appear on TV, and don’t allow themselves to become some shouting character, those are the people who do the real work.  That’s the stuff that means something.  Whether that means being a political watch dog or just entertaining with compelling stuff, it’s the real deal.

Stop the cologne, or send febreze.

I’d never want to take a dime out of the pockets of the print media.  They’re struggling mightily right now, and (warning, pdf ) that’s not good for the greater good.  I get it that ads make money, and money pays for things.  Many people seem to forget that simple equation.

Especially the DVR addicts.  You know the type, the ones that say: “I love watching all my favorite shows with my DVR because I can skip right through the commercials!”  C’mon.  Don’t you realize what pays the bills so your favorite shows exist?

That said, here’s how to stop getting those nauseating cologne samples in your Esquire and GQ magazines.  I know in some very small way this is putting another dent in the revenues of those two publications, but I can’t help it.  Tearing those glossy pages of stink out is the first thing I do when they land in my mailbox.

For Esquire: Click Here.  Log in using any of the three methods.  Click “request scent free copies” on the left.
For GQ: Click Here.  Log in using any of the three methods.  Click “contact customer service” on the left.  Ask.

Sorry Esquire and GQ.  I’m just tired of your magazines showing up smelling like the set of Jersey Shore.

And now, a shameless attempt to make some money…
