Gapocalypse 2010: Which is uglier?

July 28, 2010 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Here's why.

sirenGAPOCALYPSE 2010siren

Bellow Two Pocket Blazer – $59.99 vs. Zip Turtleneck Sweater – $69.50

Who laced the GAP design office water cooler with PCP?  Usually a dependable, rock of consistency in the down to earth American style world, GAP currently has two… um… particularly unattractive pieces available for purchase.

Their Bellow two pocket blazer takes the worst design flaws of bulky cargo shorts, and slaps them on an ultra-wrinkled three button blazer.  With an inexplicable flapped breast pocket.  The Zip Turtleneck sweater is a total mystery.  Why is the zipper running to the side like that?  Why does the ribbing swap from vertical to dryer vent hose horizontal around the elbows?  And how are you supposed to put this thing on?  Do you pull this on over your head?  Or is the zipper placement there for you to step through it unzipped and hike it up that way?

Cast your vote for the uglier item, or defend them if you must, in the comments section below.

Ben Franklin said: “Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.”  So on that note, let’s end on something positive.  Check out the sweet new Rugby Socks Gap has for $7.50:

The blazer is hideous. It looks like they were trying to mash an army field jacket into a sports coat, and failed.

But …. that sweater is beyond belief bad. It looks like something from a low budget 70s science fiction movie.

I believe the blazer above may be an attempt (and a poor one at that) to replicate this one from Ralph Lauren. Also, an unrelated fact, I just received a coupon from banana republic for 40% two items, plus free shipping today only. I’m not sure if it works for gap also but the code is D1F3JCWYZRLW. I will be picking up a couple of pairs of the new Tailored Khaki in Slim fit if it does work.

LOL! I saw the sweater last night and couldn’t contain myself. Wearing it would get me laughed out of the office.

I vote the sweater! It looks like something out of Zoolander…

Is anyone else reminded of a modern version of those “footy pajamas” when they see that zip turtleneck? Ha!

I too vote for the sweater. It looks pretty ridiculous. On the other hand, while definitely not the best looking thing, I don’t think the blazer is THAT bad.

The blazer looks like if an ugly raincoat, a too big for the model blazer, and a worn in dirty old green tee shirt had a threesome

That would be a seriously awkward apparel post-coital breakfast.

    Sweater is worse, hands down.

Speaking of the Gap, if you need a pair of pants you should check out your local store right now. It seems that they’re clearing out their original khakis, and if they have any left in your size they’re an absolute steal. I just bought two pairs in different colors that were marked all the way down to $12.97 but then rang up for less than $8(!) apiece before taxes.

By the way, the sweater gets my vote, though I won’t be pairing my new khakis with that blazer either.

the sweater looks like an H & M wanna-be disaster….the blazer is just a goofy piece of clothing, that sadly alot of guys wont notice the problems with the blazer

vote for the sweater…because it screams “trying too hard” which ultimately looks worse than a cargo blazer

Sweater. It looks like some one has played to much Final Fantasy and is trying their hand at adding zippers to the strangest places.

The sweater works if you resemble a bobblehead or would like to bring all the comfort of a wetsuit to casual clothing. On the other hand, asymmetrical and pocket bellows should never meet.

Maybe inspired by outdoorsy “non stacking” zipper apparel that avoids the center. Either way.. awful
