Summer Chinos 2010 – Easier to wear Shades: Khaki
, Gray, and White
Now that the sun is spending more time shining on the Northern Hemisphere, it’s time to shelve the heavy denim for at least the daytime. It’s chino season, and embracing new non-denim pants doesn’t mean you have to be pleated and plain.
We’ll break this up into two parts. The three easiest to wear colors or shades are featured today, with two more difficult to wear colors plus a pattern showing up tomorrow. These three will go with just about anything, and you don’t have to be a high-fashion type to pull them off. All are flat front, far from baggy, and under $45.00

LEFT: Classic Khaki – Alfani RED Label Stretch Slim Fit Chino – SALE $24.99
(Reg. $59.50)
Yes everyone has at least two or three pairs of plain ol’ Khaki’s in their closet. But that doesn’t mean you can’t stand out with a well fitting pair of the updated classics. These Alfani RED pants at almost always on sale, but $24.99 for a pair of pants of this caliber is still a bargain. They’re slick, they’re smooth, they don’t blend in.
CENTER: Light Gray/Marble – Docker’s Signature Khaki D1 Slim Fit Flat Front – $36.00
You might have noticed that Docker’s have evolved. These D1’s are the most modern. The light slate gray is also a color that not many guys wear. Paired with a white shirt, navy tie, and affordable black blazer, you’ll look like you spent hundreds on your clothes.
RIGHT: White/Sail Gap Original Khaki – $44.50
Still one of the best buys in pants, The Gap Original Khaki might be plain in general, but it’s not when it’s pure crisp white. Wash them on warm with a good detergent, and stay away from ketchup.
Tomorrow: More difficult to wear shades for those of you who consider these to be blah.
I like the Alfani ones, and also note that they are available in those other colors too. Problem is their size selection is horrendous! I’ve been keeping my eye on them online and in store for the past couple weeks since the sale brought them down to $19.99 and the selection pretty much hasn’t changed: 33×30 and up only on all colors.
What do you guys think about J. Crew chinos? I really like their new slim chinos, they fit my butt without giving me a diaper bottom by the end of the day. lol
I like most everything J.Crew has to offer, unfortunately they are expensive. Their chinos are no exception, at $20-30 more than all of those listed above (according to website).
I think for $36 the D1’s are killer. They come in my size, they fit great and look great. Even on my skinny butt.
I bought some beige banana republic chinos last year and they’re great. They might be slightly up there in price (approx. $50) but whoevers interested might look into those since the fit is nice and relaxed. However, the best and nicest chinos i’ve ever seen are some RL that were about $90. In case anyone’s willing to splurge.
J.Crews new urban slim chinos are great and worth the extra money. I have two pairs and love them. For me even the new D1 slim dockers are still too beggy, I had to buy a pair for a casual wedding I am in. Every once in a while a specific color of the J.Crew chinos will go on sale online. H&M also has some great ones for really cheap in nice slim fits as wells as lightweight white denim.
I went to Kohl’s today to try on the Dockers D1 and I went in my J. Crew straight fit chinos. I agree with Chris but more so that the bottom of the chino was as wide as the knee area so they are in essence straight fits for slender folk but slender in the thighs because they are tight/slim there not at the bottom. My J. Crew straight fits had a smaller opening than those. !! I still like them for their affordable price but the material was lacking. The D3 soft khaki material with D1 would be great!! All in all, I would buy D1s and use them as down and dirty chinos to get dirty in lol, one size up since they are tight.
I agree, I noticed the soft dockers and liked the material better but not the fit.
