Got a cotton suit? Buy a steamer.

GQ’s Favorite Cotton Suits | SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric Steamer – $54.99

Almost everyone likes cotton suits.  Yet nobody likes to Iron.  This is a problem.  GQ just posted a slideshow of their favorite cotton suits for 2010, and no big surprise, the best looking ones are also the cheapest (# 2 Club Monaco & #8 DKNY).  Now’s the time to buy a cotton suit if you haven’t, but once you get it… how do you take care of it?

Cotton naturally wrinkles and that’s okay.  But paying for it to get pressed by your dry cleaner every time  you wear it just won’t work.   Which is why investing in one of the few quality mid-grade garment steamers on the market is a fine idea.

The SteamFast 1500 Watt Steamer falls somewhere between a dinky little travel steamer and a big ol’ professional model.  It only costs $55 and after 143 customer reviews on Amazon it has four stars.  Plus, it earned the Good House Keeping Seal of Approval.  I know, I know… try not to get too excited.

Hang up that cotton suit and follow the instructions.  The steam will loosen the wrinkles up, and use the included press pad for the stubborn ones.  Could you use your regular old Iron for the pants?  Probably.  But use your iron on the jacket and you risk doing some damage.
