90% of the dress shirts on the market are too big. Finding a pre-tailored, versatile, fitted dress shirt for under $50 has been something of a challenge. So when I saw these oxfords from Target for $20 I was skeptical. Really skeptical. But the reviews on target.com were promising:
I generally buy high end European designer shirts since I find it very difficult to find regular shirts that are well tailored for a reasonably trim physique. I was really surprised that Target makes these beautifully cut shirts – nice and slim with high arm holes and cut long in the body so they say tucked in and shapely all day – HappyBrit
These shirts are a perfect fit for my body, athletic and trim, while most men’s dress shirts look ridiculously billowy and I have to have them tailored which almost isn’t worth it. This is also made of a good cotton, with a nice sheen and a good firm spread collar. – EW
So I went out and tried it on.
First, the fit of the body. It’s perfect. It’s similar to an Express 1mx FITTED (not modern fit) so it’s real good and close at the sides. But unlike Express 1mx, which is strangely short in the arms, the sleeves on the target shirt are a perfect length. The fabric is decent quality and far from thin. This ain’t a see-through JC Penny Special. The collar leans a little more towards a traditional point, but I’d still consider it semi spread, and the buttons… they’re surprisingly thick.
The shirt tail is much longer than the Express 1mx, so wearing it untucked is out, but so what? If you need an oxford that you can wear with everything from a suit to dark jeans and a casual blazer, then why spend more than $20.00 when you could have one of these?
I was sold. Literally. I purchased a white one and look forward to when they have a lighter blue shade available.
