It was 80 degrees in Chicago the other day. Probably time for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere to put away our long heavy wool coats for another 6 months. Two types of jackets are needed for warmer months. Long, and short.
This is a nice example of the short variety.
Good for casual nights out, weekends, or going to work if you’re in a more laid back field, Banana Republic’s cotton utility jacket has just enough military inspired details without going all whacked out over the top.
The military pockets on the chest are the perfect size, there are no actually epaulets but instead two flush loops that help the shoulders stand out, and on one arm of the jacket there’s a patch with a couple of… writing utensil… I don’t know, sheaths? Y’know, a place to keep a pen and pencil if you so choose. Like chef’s jackets have.
This thing pulls inspiration from military, motorcycle, and safari jackets. Not cheap, but I’ve had a similar jacket from Banana Republic for the last three or four years, and I love it. The navy might make you look a little “too blue” if you wear it with dark jeans, so stick with the pale gray color which is clean and more modern.
