I’ll never understand slow and sad music. If I want to invoke those kinds of emotions I’ll stop by the international section on a news site and see what kind of horrible things we humans are doing to each other around the globe.
That’s the right time for a band like Broken Bells.
Made up of master producer/artist Danger Mouse and the The Shins‘ James Mercer, Broken Bells has a sound that’s equal parts contemplative, airy, and gentle but still driving. Rolling Stone said the record is filled with “sounds that might’ve been beamed in from another dimension, one where electronica textures collide with psychedelic harpsichords and eerie Pet Sounds harmonies.”
Psychedelic harpsichords, ‘bout right.
It’s also accessible. They’ve got hooks, riffs, and beats. You’ll be hard pressed to not bounce your heel to it.
Broken Bells is the latest artist splicing success story from the good run that the Music industry has been on. First it was Robert Plant and Allison Krauss
Try “October,” “The Ghost Inside” and their first single “The High Road” which is partnered up with an incredible video, which you can see below.
