The Search for the Perfect Dress Shirt – GAP Fitted Perfect Shirt

GAP Fitted “Perfect” Shirt – $29.50 – $39.50

(Part II in an ongoing series.  For Part I Click Here)

Gap calls this oxford their “Perfect” shirt and although it does have a lot going for it, the Dappered.com search for the Perfect Dress Shirt won’t stop here.  Allow us to break it down:

Pros

  • Good fit.  Not too bulky.
  • Great, solid, firm semi-spread collar
  • Available everywhere in different colors
  • Collar, cuffs, and placket are reinforced giving them bright vivid color
  • Goes on sale all the time.

Cons

  • Still would need some tailoring if you intend to wear with a tie
  • Sleeves could be a touch longer
  • No exact sizing.  Just S, M, L, XL, etc…
  • Feels a bit more casual than formal.  Better under a sweater than w/ a suit

This shirt is just like the store it comes from.  Dependable, stylish, and a good foundation for your wardrobe.  Is it going to end up being your favorite oxford you put on whenever you’re headed to a big event?  Probably not.  Is it an above average, serviceable, and affordable shirt you can buy and use day in and day out in multiple ways?  Absolutely.
