Citizen Men’s Eco Drive Calibre 3100 – $296.25

It was once suggested on this very site that you shouldn’t ever spend more than $221.25 on a wrist watch. Why go higher than that when you could get everything you’d ever want in style, function, and features for that amount in the then featured Citizen Eco Drive Chrono?

Here’s the problem. That watch doesn’t seem to be available anymore.

That means we need a new pick for the top of the line yet still somewhat affordable wristwatch.

It’s an extra $80, and expensive as hell at almost $300… but the next step up is this Citizen Men’s Eco Drive 3100.

Certainly more formal than the Eco Drive Chrono, it features two prominent windows for the date numerals, Roman numerals around the outside of the face, and the Eco Drive means you’ll never have to deal with a dying battery. The perpetual calendar is also a nice feature and that takes into account the different number of days in each month as well as the leap years.

This is a special occasion watch. Meaning, you’ll most likely get it as a gift on a special occasion (wedding day, graduation, etc…) and you also won’t wear it every single day. Shirts and ties at the office, yes. T-shirt and jeans on the weekend. No. You should have some other watches for that.

It’s a smart dress watch that isn’t too stuck up. And perhaps the large dual date display windows could serve as a prominent reminder that sometimes life isn’t about the minutes and seconds which are ticking by.  But instead we should focus more on what we can be proud of once each day is done.
