Kayak.com is different than your average travel website. Put in your destination first, and a calender pops up with fares on different dates. A $100 swing in either direction isn’t uncommon, and if you’re flexible you can save serious money. One weekend a ticket might cost $400. The next it could be $300. A few weeks later it might be down to $240. If you’re scouting out options for an upcoming trip, Kayak is the website to go with.
Kayak searches all of the other search engines, and those other sites never get their hands on your computer’s cookies. Those cookies are what allow the other sites to know you, your computer, and what you’re searching for. Thus, allowing them to steadily jack up the rates if they want to.
Kayak searches hotel/airfare packages too. During the planning for an upcoming trip to Salt Lake City and it found a package that was three nights at a nice Salt Lake City hotel, plus round trip airfare for two… and it came to $600. I went to the hotel’s website to check out pricing on just the room (in case we wanted to drive) and the room itself was $450 for three nights. $150 for TWO round trip plane tickets?
I was and still am impressed.
