You always want what you can’t have. And most of the time when the anticipation is driving you crazy, when you actually get what you’re pining after, it just doesn’t live up. The image in your head more often than not is better than actual reality.
I don’t think that’s going to happen with Them Crooked Vultures.
Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones have joined forces to make a band that could single-handedly outshine the combined efforts of all the hard-rock bands who have released material in the last decade. The music sounds like dirty dirty updated Zeppelin. The riffs are reminiscent of Physical Graffiti. That is, what little riffs and music we’ve heard. Smaller club shows are all they’ve played. Minimal but stylistically addictive web presence. Guerrilla advertising at its best.
October 23rd is the rumored release date of their first album. And with all the hype and anticipation, it could set up for serious letdown. But I don’t think it will. Because on that day I think we’ll all be welcoming each other to the Christmas morning of 21st Century Rock Music.
