Spier and Mackay is one of the best bang-for-the-buck menswear brands out there. Which is why they don’t run many sales. And when they do, they don’t discount an enormous amount, because their prices are already comparatively low.
Which makes this October Sale they just launched quite the “something*.”
(*The gal with the metal grinder working away on her steel corset gets me every time.)
It’s an “up to” sale. So not everything is the max 20% off. But what is on sale is so foundational/wheelhouse you don’t often see it getting any sort of discount at Spier. Which makes it perfect for us. Also, RE shipping/returns, they offer free outbound shipping on orders of $100+, and returns are free if it’s your “first purchase of a Suit/Sport Coat, Shoes, Dress & Casual Trousers, Outerwear, Knitwear and Dress & Casual Shirts.” After that, return costs vary depending on the item (bigger the item, more expensive the shipping. See those prices here.)
No code needed. Discount happens in your cart. Off we go with the picks…
From their core line of all-season half-canvas wool suits, which you’ll find on our list of the best suits under $500. Nice Australian merino wool. Half-canvas construction. Easy to tailor non-functioning sleeve cuff buttons. And available in two fit templates: Slim or a more athletic leaning Contemporary fit. Color is a dark gray which isn’t quite a super-dark charcoal. And that makes it incredibly versatile.
For those who want to keep it simple and classic. No broguing of any kind. Full grain uppers, Blake stitched, leather lining, subtle studded rubber sole. Brown or black.
A true Dark Navy suit. All business. Also from their core-line of all-season Australian Merino wool half-canvas suit. 15% off though, not the full 20% off like the Dark Gray is getting.
Head here for our shoe expert’s review, where he awarded them a (rare) 5/5.
Full grain leather. Blake stitched. Leather lined. Subtle rubber studded sole for grip. Sleek without being overly pointy. Available in black, dark brown, or a warmer tan.
They’re really playing the hits in this sale. Italian wool from Angelico. Half canvas construction. Quarter lined in the back for extra comfort/breathability. Unpadded Spalla Camicia shoulders. Lower patch pockets keep it from looking like a suit jacket. Wear it with jeans to dress trousers. Heck of a navy blazer, that.
Blake stitched soles. Full grain leather uppers. On sale in wine (reddish brown), or a rich medium brown which leans towards cognac. Subtle flash. Great for wearing with a suit and no tie.
Hard to get more “Mr. Fall Man” than a corduroy chore coat. No direct experience with these. Cut in their contemporary fit, which is an athletic silhouette with room to move. And you want a little extra space for a layer like this. Gotta fit a flannel and/or sweater underneath.
Fancy pants alert. Midnight Navy fabric woven in Italy by the famed Vitale Barberis Canonico mill. Peak lapels. Unpadded, lightly roped shoulders. Single button closure, barchetta chest pocket, satin trimmed jetted pockets, and grosgrain accents. New Year’s Eve is coming. You ready to party… hard? (Okay, maybe not that hard.)
The Up to 20% off October Sale at Spier runs through Monday November 2nd, but don’t be surprised if common sizes start to sell through on some of the more popular items between now and then.
On sale outerwear in moleskin, corduroy, and UNIQLO's Pufftech.
